The Onsite Field Service Engineer will provide daily on-site support performing installation, upgrade, diagnoses, troubleshooting, and repair of complex equipment and systems. Provides feedback to Manager and identifies opportunities to promote efficiency in day to day operations. The successful applicant will be part of an award-winning customer support team that leads the industry in customer satisfaction. Delivers technical support to onsite sites utilizing experience performing installations, diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex Illumina instrumentation and systems. This role requires troubleshooting, communication, time management, situational awareness, poise under pressure, and collaboration. You will be expected to build and maintain strong relationships across in-district Service and Support teams. Responsibilities: * Proficient at installation, repair and maintenance of Illumina platforms * Troubleshoot a wide variety of complex customer reported problems * Proactively monitor, schedule, and prioritize tasks to maximize instrument uptime and customer satisfaction * Responsible for completing post repair/install validation runs as required on all platforms * Manage all administrative tasks (SFDC case management) in a quality manner and within the established guidelines, making suggestions and changes when needed * Independently manage account, build and help strengthen customer relationships * Schedule and perform equipment upgrades and new installations * Utilize and maintain up to date Service and training manuals, Field Service Bulletins, SOPs and facilitate remote connectivity to customer instrumentation. * Responsible for escalating repairs as needed and primary point of contact for escalation related activities * Running reports on instrument failures and using data to proactively service instruments in order to avoid costly downtime * Lead regular meetings with site personal reporting out metrics related to instrument performance, downtime etc. * Partner with NSST and product support for any ongoing sustaining engineering activities (product performance monitoring or product improvement efforts) * Responsible for communicating and overseeing any rotational support locally or from other regions * Resource to assist other SSE's in troubleshooting complex issues * Provide additional onsite training/support to other SSE's to further develop their skill sets * Identify opportunities for gaining site efficiencies which will promote a decrease in mean time between repair and increase instrument uptime * Ensure proper inventory levels of service parts and make changes as needed All listed tasks and responsibilities are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional tasks and responsibilities. Requirements: * BS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, related degree with knowledge in the biotechnology/biomedical industry, or applicable experience * 2-6 years relevant experience or direct experience servicing our products * Must be highly motivated and have problem-solving ability * Ability to operate as an independent contributor and as a cooperative member of a team * Excellent verbal and written communications skills * Biotechnology/Biomedical industry knowledge, or applicable military experience * Demonstrated experience using electronic troubleshooting equipment; e.g. DVM, Oscilloscope, etc * Familiarity with field optical alignments, robotics, electrical/electronics, and mechanical systems * Technical knowledge of computer hardware, Windows OS, and networking * Planning, scheduling, and prioritization skills The estimated base salary range for the Onsite Field Service Engineer role based in the United States of America is: $70,800 - $106,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Responsibilities: Problem Solving - Effectively assess, diagnose and resolve basic configuration and hardware problems. Quickly and efficiently resolve problems assigned by the Customer Support Center. Assess overall performance of workstations and implement standard maintenance procedures to maximize performance. Workstation Software - With supervision, install, configure and maintain operating system software on client workstations. Provide support on basic features of application software such as initiation of software, logging on, navigation and termination. Understand a subset of the total configurations in the organization. Install, configure and maintain multiple workstation operating systems that include DOS, Windows v3.11, Windows 95, Windows 98, NetWare, Windows NT and Windows 2000. Install and maintain software images that assists in managing client workstations. Workstation Hardware - With direction install, configure and maintain hardware for client workstations. Client hardware includes workstation hardware such as processors, memory, hard drives, modems, video cards, monitors, peripherals, and CD-ROM drives. Possess the skills and knowledge in client workstation technology to support configurations in the organization. LAN Administration - With supervision, stop and restart services, shutdown and restart operating system software on Windows NT, 2000 and Novell servers. Network Administration - With supervision Telnets to local LAN switches and Hubs, activates ports for workstations and printers. Telecom - With supervision assists in the support and maintenance of the telecommunication systems - capable of providing dial-tone to the desktop. Desktop Hardware and Software - With direction, install, configure and maintain hardware and software. Communications - Demonstrate strong communication and human relationship skills. Inventory Management - Track and document the hardware and software inventory. Standards - Install, configure and maintain standards associated with workstation and peripheral procedures and documentation. Can speak to and perform the process of preparing contaminated instruments for cleaning, transporting contaminated instruments to sterile processing department, and how to retrieve clean sterilized instruments from sterile processing department. Assist with supply inventory by locating expired supplies and informing necessary personnel when inventory is low, depleted, or on backorder and takes appropriate action. 4. Accesses and handles selected medications and administers contrast. Administers contrast material in the correct dosage, route and observes patients for adverse reactions. Informs and assists physicians and radiologists with patient scheduling, patient transfers, and emergency cases ensuring that all preexam procedures are followed including allergic reaction and level tests. 5. Processes acquired images onto PACS. Ensures that images and records are properly completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling. The on-site Field Service Engineer plays a critical role in delivering exceptional technical support for Illumina's cutting-edge products. This position serves as a key liaison between customers and internal teams for a high throughput genomics facility, ensuring optimal performance and satisfaction through expert service and support. The on-site Field Service Engineer works with the customer to troubleshoot and resolve problems; install, upgrade and repair instruments; provide technical training; and collaborate closely with the local account team to ensure customer success. This position is located onsite in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Responsibilities: Install, upgrade, repair, and maintain instrument systems at key customer site. Troubleshoot and repair optical, fluidics, thermal, and other system problems. Conduct on-site customer trainings on Next-Generation Sequencing and/or Illumina microarray products. Communicate technical product and applications updates to customer. Contribute to customer relationship management, understanding customer goals, and setting appropriate product and performance expectations. Enter work performed in service database in a timely manner. Maintain accurate service spares inventory. Submit service reports, expense reports, and "Bug" reports in a timely manner. Revise/review SOPs. With guidance, prioritize tasks and responsibilities to achieve departmental key performance metrics. Represent the company professionally, ethically, and morally at all times. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. 2-5 years of relevant field service or technical support experience, preferably in a biotech setting. Experience with general lab best practices and common Molecular Biology techniques. Knowledge of genomics, sequencing workflows, and Illumina technology preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Commitment to providing outstanding customer service. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. Willingness to travel within the assigned territory as needed (>20%) The estimated base salary range for the Onsite Field Service Engineer 2 role based in the United States of America is: $73,400 - $110,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
