1887 Pastor H. Lettermann installed; Texas Synod meets here; Ladies Aid organized February 12 for the purpose of caring for the cemetery; A parochial school is established; New pews added; The past decade had been a difficult one for the congregation.
On June 26, 1892, a lightning strike damaged the original steeple of Immanuel’s Sanctuary.
The only record of his efforts was the notation of a baptism on December 16, 1894, apparently from one of the families who would later form Holy Trinity Church.
In 1894 the coal oil lamps in the Sanctuary were replaced with electric light fixtures.
Since 1895, when it was first established as a Lutheran Boarding School by Pastor Leidig at Point Pass (near Eudunda), Immanuel has educated tens of thousands of young people.
1897 Pastor A. Hartmann installed; Two additional rooms were added to the parsonage.
1898 Pastor William Pfennig is supply pastor.
1899 Pastor William Flachmeier installed.
1900 - In the fall, regular worship services at the old Underwood Hills School at 78th and Cass streets were started by Pastor Erbe.
1901 - The first Confirmation took place at the Underwood School on March 31, 1901.
There were small square boxes filled with sawdust under the pews on the “men’s side” (north side). They were used for spit from chewing tobacco!. These were removed in 1901.
1907 - Pastor Erbe accepted a call to Boone, Iowa.
1908 Pastor G. Stricker installed.
1909 It is resolved to build a new church; Pastor Stricker begins to also serve Dessau Lutheran Church, as do all of Immanuel’s Pastors who succeed him.
1910 - Pastor Henry Erck from Florence again served as supply pastor.
On July 30, 1911 the first Sunday School and worship services were held in the Odd Fellows Building at 61st and Maple.
1911 First telephone installed.
1911 - Pastor F. W. Seesko from Central City became pastor of Holy Trinity Church..
1912 Sewing Circle organized.

The congregation was officially incorporated in April of 1913. .
1914 Pastor G. Stricker dies and is buried in church cemetery; Pastor Henry Schliesser installed; New parsonage built, cost:$3000
1916 Luther League Auditorium built (the first Lutheran Parish hall in Texas); Host to Texas District Luther League Convention; Two acres of land bought from Emil H. Bohls for enlargement of cemetery; Pastor Schliesser first resident Pastor to have an automobile.
1919 - Pastor Seesko was trying to serve the two congregations, both of which were growing.
1920 16 Sunday School teachers organize and join the Texas Sunday School Teachers Association; Finance classes raised to $10, $20, and $30 per year.
1921 - May 10th - The new Emmanuel Lutheran was dedicated.
1924 Pastor M.J. Schwarz installed; Congregation hosts State Sunday School Teachers Convention; Due to change in pastors, the 50th Anniversary is celebrated on November 2.
1930 Affiliated with American Lutheran Church.
1930 - The Missouri Synod suspended Pastor Seesko because he served Communion to inactive lodge members, in violation of Missouri Synod standards.
- New hymnals (the ARed@ Hymnal) were purchased to replace the ABlack@ hymnal which was first published in 1930.
1931 - Pastor Otto F. Meyer was called to assist Pastor Seesko, who was in failing health.
1932 - In August, the meeting of the Central District of the American Lutheran Church was held at Emmanuel.
1933 - Pastor Otto F. Meyer accepted a call to Kansas City.
1934 Pastor E. G. Knaack installed.
1935 Host to Texas District of American Lutheran Church.
1935 - Pastor Seesko resigned due to ill health.
The wood carving of the Last Supper, created by an Immanuel member in 1937, is one of the items that was brought from the old church building.
1938 - Pastor Streng accepted a call to St John=s Lutheran in Beatrice, Nebrska.
1939 - On March 12th, Pastor G.C. Becker was installed.
1941 - The 20th anniversary of the dedication of our church building was celebrated on May 4th.
1943 - In April, Immanuel hosted the convention of the Central District of American Lutheran Church.
1943 The old school building is sold at an auction for $90.
1944 70th Anniversary observed; Cemetery stone fence is erected.
1948 629-foot well dug and equipped with electric pump; Finance classes raised to $12.50, $25, and $37.50 per year.
1949 Pastor W. A. Mueller installed and leaves a few months later.
As the plans for the new church were being made there was much concern about Immanuel's organ, a 27 rank Reuter brand instrument that had been used since before the Great Depression. It was rebuilt in 1950 and was due for certain work when the congregation was considering the new church.
1951 The Duplex envelope system replaces the class system of giving; Junior Mission Band organizes in September (later changed to “Junior Lutherans”).
1952 - Elwin Bergstrasser began work as a student intern, and Mary Lou Mixdorf began as Parish Secretary.
1953 - In August, Pastor G. C. Becker suffered a heart attack.
1954 - Pastor Becker resigned in April.
1954 Constitution revised and congregation incorporates; 80th Anniversary Celebration on May 23 and May 30.
1957 Memorial contributions for Education/Building Fund begun; Water storage tank installed; “Service Book and Hymnal” introduced; Pastor Wilson Hill installed; “Church Chat” newsletter started; Pairs and Spares organized.
1958 - The Central District of the American Lutheran Church held its annual meeting at Immanuel.
1959 85th Anniversary Thankoffering for renovating the church was $3,699.
1959 - Eugene Winterfield began his year of internship.
1960 Texas District becomes the Southern District of The American Lutheran Church; Tabea Verein (Ladies Aid) and the Women’s Missionary Society dissolve to become part of the new ALCW (American Lutheran Church Women).
1960 - Richard Shibley was installed as a Lay Assistant to Pastor Meyer.
1961 Constitution revised and adopted.
1962 The Pflugerville High School team receives recognition for having won 55 consecutive games.
1963 - Pastor Fred Hansen of Blair, Nebraska, assisted Pastor Meyer until July 1st.
1964 Pastor Donald Luckemeyer installed; “Immanuel Image” becomes new name for the monthly church newsletter; 90th Anniversary observed November 29 with dedication services for the new parsonage and education building.
1966 - Keith Langdon resigned as Lay Assistant, but continued as Youth Director and Choir Director.
1967 - Miss Ilene Strand began serving as Parish Worker.
1969 - Pastors A. H. Pinkall and Arthur Bliese served as interim pastors.
1970 - The congregation had been growing over the last years, and the work load had increased considerably.
1971 - Pastor Debner accepted a call to St Johns Lutheran Church in Sterling, Nebraska.
The first central air conditioning system was installed in Immanuel’s Sanctuary in 1971.
1972 - Pastor Geibert passed away on July 16th.
1973 - Pastor David Zellmer was installed on February 24th as part of a team ministry, which was designed and promoted by the Nebraska Synod.
1975 - Pastor Zellmer accepted a call to St Timothy Lutheran in Fremont, Nebraska.
1976 - Pastor Harold Becker from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, was called and installed on February 22nd.
1977 Congregation now entitled to send two lay delegates to the District convention; Receive deed of home of Regina Arend; Begin having two morning Worship Services on Communion Sunday.
From the AshesOn February 1, 1980, embers from a fire in the marsh by the river caught in the wind and landed on Immanuel's roof.
1981 Decide to build multi-purpose building and renovate Education Building after $100,000 is raised; Stone cross on church tower destroyed by storm Carillon System installed; 40th Anniversary of Brotherhood celebrated; Begin two services every Sunday.
1982 Land site for new building done by volunteer work; Immanuel’s “Noah’s Ark” float wins first place in several parades; 60th Anniversary Ordination of Pastor A.H. Muehlbrad.
1983 Volunteer workers complete new building; Multi-purpose building dedicated October 23 – Parish Hall; Closed-circuit television in Chapel is in color; Congregation computer purchased; Two members in seminary.
1983 - Pastor Becker resigned, due to failing health.
1984 - Pastor Donna Durette was called as an Associate Pastor.
The old school building (514 S. Chicago) was sold in 1985 to the Freeport Area Church Cooperative and continues to be used by this community organization.
1985 First Christmas Luminary; American Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church in America and American Evangelical Church merges to become Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA); ALCW becomes WELCA (Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America); Day School Program started.
1986 - Pastor Lilligard and Pastor Durette resigned.
- Pastor Walter K. Schmidt served as Interim and Visitation Pastor through 1987.
1988 Pastor Ray Kraemer installed.
1989 Tired and Retired Group started.
1989 - Mary Lou Aune was hired as the Lay Assistant to Pastor Mesecher.
1990 Restoration of Sanctuary and Basement; Men’s Breakfast group started; Constitution revised.
1991 Elevator installed; SEARCH began; Ordination of Lucinda Rueter Zesch
The new Immanuel Lutheran Church building (1993 W. Church Street) was dedicated to the glory of God and for use for Christian worship, fellowship, education and ministry on December 18, 1993.
1993 Pastor Don Just serves as Interim Pastor; Pastor Wilson Hill dies and is buried in church cemetery.
Don Diestelmeier of Freeport Organ Company rebuilt and upgraded the organ, beginning in 1994.
1994 Pastor Scott Postlewait installed; New Nursery completed.
1995 Children’s Choir started.
1996 - Pastor Mesecher resigned due to poor health, and retired to Hastings, Nebraska. - Pastor Alan Hanson was
1997 Pastor Tom Kesselring ordained and installed.
The organ was first “officially” used on Easter in 1998 while work continued.
1998 Restoration/Upgrade of pipe organ at cost of $97,000; Organ dedication; 125th Anniversary celebration begins with Veteran’s Day observance.
1999 125th Anniversary of Immanuel celebrated on May 30.
1999 - Pastor Reid Neve accepted the position of Visitation Pastor.
2001 - Rebecca Flores began as an Associate in September.
2001 Pastor Keith Born installed as Senior Pastor; Kara Clark hired as Youth Director; Construction of gymnasium, classrooms and renovations is approved.
2002 Constitution revised; Gymnasium and classrooms completed; Day school moves into new building; New sound system installed in sanctuary; Ordination of Matthew Kuempel.
2003 - Pastor Raymond Meyer passed away August 13.
2004 - Repair work to the Organ chambers was necessary, due to water damage.
2005 - The original Pastors Office on the parsonage was remodeled to close the entrance door and remove the porch.
2006 Kristi Piskorz hired as Director of Educational Ministries; Dedication of Church Park and Prayer Garden; New Ramp and entrance to Sanctuary built in the South West corner of the Sanctuary.
2007 Food Pantry relocated and opened January 3rd in the “Yellow Brick” House; New Street Side Sign built; “New” Evangelical Lutheran Worship Hymnals Purchased; New piano purchased for Sanctuary Choir Loft; Pastor Kesselring 10th year of service Anniversary.
2008 Adult Leadership Policy Passed and Initiated; Kathy Smith hired as Director of Day School Ministry; Kara Clark begins AIM Program at Luther Seminary; Renovation of Sanctuary Entrance Begun.
2008 - Pastor Bryan Lagerstam, a recent graduate of Wartburg Seminary, began his service to Immanuel as our Associate Pastor, working with Pastor Hanson.
2009 Renovation of Sanctuary Entrance completed; Renovation of Outside Basketball court to include Lights and New Basketball Standards; Pastor Born’s 15th Anniversary of Ordination.
2010 Parking Lot Renovation; Parish Hall Classroom Renovation including flooring, carpet, and paint; Parish Hall Restroom renovation project started.
2010 - Plans began for the celebration of the 100 years of the presence of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the Benson area.
2012 Pastor Keith Born resigns in Jan; Pastor Tom Kesselring installed as Senior Pastor.
2014 “Backpack Ministry” program with Pflugerville ISD begins, providing food for the weekend to students at Wieland Elem School; Celebrated 140th Anniversary; Katie Wegner, Youth Director, begins seminary at Luther Seminary; Beverly Woolf honored for 25 years of service.
2015 Claudia Cardwell is named Day School Director.
He joined the EAA Foundation Board in 2015 and currently serves as the Vice President.
2017 Pastor Rosy Rivera resigns in May to accept a call at First Lutheran Church in Lorain, Ohio.
On Memorial Day of May 2018 half of the interior ceiling of Immanuel’s Sanctuary collapsed causing severe damage to the pews, lights, attic, building and pipe organ.
2018 Melissa Sjolander is hired in July as the Office & Facilities Administrator.
Renovations and repairs to restore Immanuel’s damaged Sanctuary were completed in about 10 months, and the Sanctuary was rededicated on March 2, 3 and 4, 2019.
2020 In February, members perform two shows of “Sweet Little Jesus Boy“. In March, the COVID-19 pandemic forces the suspension of in-person worship.
Eric re-joined the EAA Board in 2020 and is a member of the finance committee.
