Implementation technicians are hired to make sure software systems a company invests in are well maintained and functional. They install, configure, and customize software packages to best fulfill their clients' expectations. They are there to troubleshoot various technical issues related to the system and are often asked to educate staff about the correct, safe, and efficient way to use the applications.
You will attend meetings with clients to discuss their needs and receive the necessary data and information to customize software accordingly. You will be responsible for drawing up timelines for implementation projects, presenting detailed work phases and deadlines by which they will be completed. You will document the work you do and create budgets and cost estimates for the services you provide.
A degree in computer science, IT, or a related area is usually required of candidates for this position. Experience in the field and proven expertise might be able to override formal education. You will need to know your way around databases and other IT applications commonly used in business management. Customer service and communication skills will be just as important as analytical and problem-solving abilities, as well as time management and multitasking.
