In this role, you will provide compassionate, hands-on care and behavioral support to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or severe psychiatric conditions in residential and community settings. This role involves direct care, coaching, and implementation of nursing and behavioral support plans.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Care & Support (40%)
Assist consumers with daily living activities (e.g., bathing, grooming, mobility, dining).
Support independence in household tasks (e.g., laundry, cooking, cleaning).
Promote consumer rights, choice-making, and positive behavioral interventions.
Escort consumers to appointments and community activities.
Maintain adaptive equipment and assist in recreational, vocational, and educational programs.
Observation & Reporting (15%)
Monitor and report changes in consumer behavior and physical condition.
Document incidents and initiate temporary intervention plans as needed.
Nursing Procedures (15%)
Administer medications and treatments within scope of practice.
Record vital signs and consumer responses to treatments.
Assist registered nurses and document care provided.
Interdisciplinary Team Participation (15%)
Collaborate in developing and implementing consumer care plans.
Attend review conferences and contribute to behavioral and crisis management planning.
Support training of Psychiatric Technician trainees and students.
Operational Flexibility (15%)
Work at various sites and shifts as needed.
Participate in required training and maintain certifications.
May serve as Acting Shift Lead and assist with home operations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Frequent interaction with individuals with developmental disabilities and severe behavioral/psychiatric conditions.
Exposure to clinical environments and potential health risks.
Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs and performing hands-on interventions.
May involve travel and mandatory overtime.
Must demonstrate cultural sensitivity, trauma-informed care, and person-centered practices.
Qualifications:
Valid and current Psychiatric Technician license (California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technicians).
Must obtain Registered Behavior Technician certification within 365 days of employment.
Minimum six months of direct care experience with individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors.
Completion of Direct Support Professional I & II or challenge test within one year.
Valid driver's license, CPR, CPI, Ukeru, and other mandatory facility training.
