Indiana Country Club company history timeline

1919

All members proudly claim Indiana Country Club as their club and continue to enjoy it for the physical and social benefits it was intended for by the original charter on July 7, 1919.

On July 7 1919, the Indiana Country Club was incorporated as a non-profit organization.

L. F. Swinter was awarded the contract to build the original clubhouse in July, 1919.

Dues during the first year, 1919, were one-half of the regular dues: $25.00 for resident members and $12.50 for non-resident members.

1921

The Club's first ever tournament was held on October 15, 1921.

"During the Fall of 1921, a number of get together meetings were held for the formation of a Country Club in Porter County.

Clearing of the land for construction of a temporary 9-hole golf course was started in the Fall of 1921.

1922

On July 29, 1922 a dinner was served on the lawn by the women's auxiliary and the "temporary course" was ready to play.

1924

The permanent course was completed in 1924.

1925

Construction was started in June and the clubhouse was dedicated at a dinner dance on November 11, 1925.

A mortgage for $25,000 was taken out on August 1, 1925 and secured by 106 Mortgage Bonds issued to members for the aggregate total of $25,000.

On a meeting held October 31, 1925 a motion was made and carried to hire a golf professional and spouse for the club at a salary not to exceed $125 per month.

On October 31, 1925 Harold Ridgely was hired as the first club professional.

The clubhouse was built in 1925 and has gone through many renovations.

1926

In June 1926 the club started serving meals on Saturdays and Sundays.

1928

On November 11, 1928 plans for a separate house containing a pro shop and housing for the pro and his wife adjacent to the Number 1 tee were approved.

1933

1934

March fired a shot after a face-off in the second overtime of game 4 of the 1934 Stanley Cup that found the net to become the first overtime goal to ever decide a championship.

1966

Darrah was elected into the ASGCA as a new member in 1966.

1977

In 1977 our present clubhouse was built providing our membership with a facility to complement our challenging and enjoyable golf course.

2014

At the beginning of 2014 the clubhouse began a complete interior renovation.
