Indiana Glass Co company history timeline

1907

The company’s letterhead noted the company was founded in 1907.

1923

In 1923, Indiana Glass introduced Avocado, its first Depression glass pattern.

1945

Collectors under 50 are more likely to focus on post-1945 material than earlier examples.

1957

In 1957, Lancaster Glass Corporation purchased Indiana Glass Company, keeping the plant and brand name in operation.

1959

After careers in the wholesale and retail grocery businesses, in 1959 he joined Indiana (as he always called it) as their salesman for the state of Indiana, working for George Morton.

1961

In 1961, patriarch John J. Gerlach and his son, John B. “Bernie” Gerlach, consolidated these firms into Lancaster Colony Corporation.

1962

In 1962, Lancaster Glass became part of the Lancaster Colony Corporation.

1963

Beginning in 1963, packaging for Indiana Glass was marked “Indiana Glass, a subsidiary of Lancaster Colony Corporation.”

1969

In 1969, Lancaster Colony went public through an Initial Public Offering (IPO), as shown in the prospectus:

1970

Tiara Exclusives, started in 1970, may have been Jim’s idea, though my dad and Ron Teal who worked for them were also instrumental.

1975

1983

In 1983, Lancaster Colony purchased Fostoria Glass.

2018

The company has gone on to greater achievements, doing over $1 billion in annual revenues in 2018.
