Indiana Health Centers company history timeline

1985

Eskenazi Health is affiliated with Eskenazi Health Foundation, which was established as the Indiana Health Institute, Inc. in 1985 as a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit corporation.

By 1985, more than 130 business and health coalitions had formed nationwide, marking an overall shift towards the privatization of hospitals and health care.

1988

With support from St Elizabeth Medical Center and a few dedicated community members who shared his zeal to help, he was able to provide affordable primary care for women and children by opening a part-time prenatal and well-child clinic in 1988.

1990

1990: Reflecting the changing times and the shift into the digital era, IHA began its efforts to implement a financial data collection system.

1993

The 1993 Clinton health plan required every United States citizen to enroll in a qualified health plan and allowed people under a certain income level to pay nothing.

1994

Addressing the health concerns of our Marion County neighborhood has been the primary focus since 1994 when a group of volunteer healthcare professionals, all members of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, came together as the Mapleton Fall Creek Christian Health Center.

2000

2000: The association begins to transition to establishing its presence on the Internet.

2002

An application submitted for section 330 community health center program funding was approved, awarding federally qualified health center status June 1, 2002.

2009

In 2009, it was determined that a replacement facility needed to be built.

2010

Decades of debate over universal health insurance and health care reform came to a head in March 2010 when President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act--the most significant overhaul of the health care system since the passage of Medicare and Medicaid--into law.

2011

Eskenazi Health is affiliated with Eskenazi Health Foundation, which was established as the Indiana Health Institute, Inc. in 1985 as a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit corporation. It changed names to become the Eskenazi Health Foundation in 2011.

2013

The Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and Eskenazi Health downtown campus opened in December 2013.

2014

The Commonground at Eskenazi Health, a unique outdoor green space focused on community, serenity and wellness, opens in July 2014.
