The Patrol Officer trainee position is an entry-level position designed to identify new police recruits. An employee in this job participates in an MPOETC Certified Act 120 program. An employee in this job develops skills and techniques to provide police services and protection to the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education property, grounds, facilities, clientele, employees, and the general public. Work involves learning to enforce the Pennsylvania Crimes Code, Motor Vehicle Code, local ordinances, and commonwealth regulations. Assignments are designed to develop proficiency in law interpretation and application, legal procedures, police operations, criminal investigations, public safety, physical fitness, self-defense, firearms use, emergency response, effective communication, report writing, maintenance and use of equipment, and law enforcement practices. Work may also include performing on-the-job assignments patrolling a State University to protect and guard property or persons from fire, theft, trespass, or other hazards. Performance is evaluated in accordance with prescribed regulations and procedures, formal inspections, personal observation, and successful completion of an MPOETC Certified Act 120 program. The officer trainee will never betray their integrity, character, or the public trust. Trainees will maintain the highest ethical standards and uphold the values of the University and police department they serve. * Participate in a structured Act 120 Basic Police Officer Training program to obtain Act 120 Certification. * Participate in training assignments to learn the principles and practices associated with conducting investigations, collecting evidence to support enforcement action, search and seizure, accident investigations, officer safety, interpersonal relations, investigations, interviews, interrogations, report writing, case preparation, and court testimony. * Receive training in the safe and proper handling of firearms and in the use of specialized equipment and instruments, including communications equipment, preliminary breath test devices, body armor, and riot gear. * Participate in training assignments to learn the principles and practices associated with the Rules of Criminal Procedure, the Rules of Evidence, criminal laws, motor vehicle laws, and rules related to search and seizure and arrest. * Patrol an assigned area of the university, watches for fires, prowlers, vandalism, or other unusual occurrences. * Direct traffic and enforce parking regulations. * Assist and direct visitors; furnish information in a courteous manner. * Maintain orderly conduct among students, employees, visitors, and the general public. * Operate motorized vehicles. * Perform related work and all other duties as required. Position Qualifications MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: * High school Diploma or completion of the General Educational Development test. * Must possess a valid driver's license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: * All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle operator's license. * All employees must meet the entrance requirements for the MPOETC Certified Act 120 program which includes a fitness test, a background check, a physical examination including a vision and hearing test, a psychological examination, and a reading test with a minimum 9 th grade reading level. * All employees are required to enroll in, participate, and complete the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission Certified Basic Police Academy (Act 120) training to obtain MPOETC Certification. The Section of Hematology in the Department of Medicine at LKSOM provides inpatient consult service and outpatient hematology clinics for patients with classical as well as malignant hematologic disorders. The faculty teach clinical fellows, residents, medical students, and physician assistant students and participate in clinical and translational research. The physician-scientist will be a member of the Section of Hematology and have outpatient clinics focused on hemostasis and thrombotic disorders. He/She will practice out of the flagship Temple University Hospital, a 746-bed tertiary care facility with robust clinical hematology and oncology programs, that is adjacent to the Medical School. The successful applicant's responsibilities will lie entirely outside of the classroom and will support the day-to-day mission-critical research, planning, technical assistance and administrative oversight efforts of the Indigent Defense Advisory Committee (IDAC) at PCCD, the Commonwealth's agency for justice planning and systemwide collaboration. This temporary full-time, 12-month grant-funded position, with the strong possibility of annual renewal, will serve as an in-house consultant and analyst to PCCD's senior leadership, research and policy teams, and the members of the IDAC. The position comes with a flexible hybrid work option that accommodates majority-remote work, however, at a minimum, the successful applicant t will be expected to maintain residency within Pennsylvania and report to PCCD's office in Harrisburg at least one business day per month. The successful applicant will join a research team comprised of IUP faculty members working closely with PCCD senior leadership, managers, programmatic staff, and stakeholders to support and expand early-stage research and planning, efforts around indigent defense within the Commonwealth. This work includes acts of medical diagnosis and prescription of medical therapeutics or corrective measures in collaboration with and under the direction of physician licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania. This position will work closely with the Infectious Disease Specialist, Clinical Nurse Supervisor, and supportive staff. This is a grant funded position within an agency that has over 25 years of financial funding support from HRSA and PA DOH. Typical work activities: * Manage care and treatment of STIs and HIV-infected patients, including the treatment of opportunistic infections, and side effects of the prescribed medications. * Educate peers and or supportive staff on treatment guidelines, opportunistic infections, and disease progression. * Provide health care team with the latest information about STIs and HIV disease and treatment protocols to include ordering and evaluating laboratory studies, STI and HIV treatment regiments, which may include the prescribing of antibiotics for the prevention or treatment of opportunistic infection. * Provide medical assessment and prescription of therapeutic measures, promotion and maintenance of health, prevention of illness including opportunistic infections, guidance and counseling of patients and families, and referral to other health care providers as appropriate. * Provide comprehensive medical assessment to include sexual health assessment and screening and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases. * Maintain accurate medical record to reflect treatment plan. * Provide note for each patient after an office visit. * Oversight and support of nursing and medical assistance staff. OTHER DUTIES: * Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and terminology of STI and HIV medicine * Comprehensive knowledge of the diagnosis, treatment, care, and prevention of diseases, allergies, and ailments * Adherence to Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner Regulations and advanced nursing practices. * Knowledge of the administration of STI to include HIV services in an outpatient ambulatory setting. * Knowledge of STI screening and treatment to include Hepatitis C infection. * Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the treatment of patients. * Ability to direct and participate in specialized research in the field of infectious disease medicine when appropriate. * Ability to work as a member of a health care team. * Ability to identify clinical trials appropriate for patient medical needs when appropriate. * Requirement to provide some coverage on the after hour on-call schedule. Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Minimum of Education / TrainingRequired Education Summary * CRNP from an accredited program and licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania as a nurse practitioner. Preferred Qualifications * Encouraged to be a member of a Professional HIV/AIDS Medical Society * Encouraged to become certified in American Academy of HIV Medicine. (AAHIVM) * Obtain ongoing continuing medical education credits in HIV/HCV and infectious disease of 30 credits per year.
