Doing meaningful work that supports the community through literacy, programs and collections. Great co-workers.
Working with the public can be challenging. Political climate often affects the library's ability to provide something for everyone.
Flexible scheduling in support departments, with support for families.
The current CEO, Gregory Hill has created cohesiveness with the board and leadership team. Projects and the strategic plan are more manageable than previous years.

Salaries are competitive with other libraries, but have challenges competing with for profit businesses.
Being able to work with colleagues in a positive, low pressure, non-competitive way.
The library seeks to improve diversity but finds it challenging to find diverse degreed librarians in Indiana.
Excellent working environment. Almost all locations are new and use the most up to date technology.
The biggest problem is the political interference with policies and hiring by City and State governments. This is a very conservative city with a history of control by a few politicians. The library board appointments have not always been an asset.
Excellent facilities. The management academy (which has now been discontinued)
Lots of communication.
Allowing more flexibility regarding scheduling.
Be sure you understand that the elected officials will be involved in more than the expected level of influence.
