Marine Electrician Journeyman Job Summary:
Install, repair and connect equipment for all electrical services on the ship without Supervision. Lay out, pull, lift and install cables and conduits without Supervision. Prepare work area, drill holes, grind metal surfaces, and mount equipment with minimal Supervision. Test electrical equipment in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items without Supervision. Perform other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
Job Requirements and Experience:
Must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
Associates Degree or Technical Certification preferred.
Minimum 6 years of marine and/or shipyard experience.

* May communicate directly with manufacturer's technical or engineering support to resolve machine tool or other production equipment problems.
* Employees must have the skills and knowledge to perform work in a safe manner in compliance with published codes, manufacturer's recommendations, and all Solar Turbines safety procedures.
* Will use hand tools, power tools, electrical and electronic test equipment.

Minimum Qualifications :

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Electrical and Amphibious Technician IV shall support repair and maintenance of surface and shipboard systems.
Electrical Systems Installation and Maintenance
Install, test, and maintain new and existing electrical cables, power and lighting circuits, and distribution systems operating at 4160 VAC, 1000 VDC, 450 VAC, and 115 VAC.
Support ship control, propulsion, and auxiliary systems, including:
Ship Service Diesel Generators (SSDGs) and Main Propulsion Diesel Engines (MPDEs)

Automatic Bus Transfer (ABT) switches, transformers, switchgear, and load centers

Identify hazards, deficiencies, and recommend repair priorities.

Level I IR Technician (minimum 30% of personnel within 60 days of support)

What You Will Do:

Responsibilities
Coordinate and execute plans of electrical installations for many different electrical and electronic systems such as lighting, announcing, 115VAC/440VAC/24DVC electrical plant equipment, Uninterrupted Power Supply equipment, Audio/Video equipment, Antenna systems and many others
Install electrical cabinets, fixtures, and equipment for various electrical systems
Install safety and distribution components (e.g., switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels etc.)
Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks using various MIL-SPEC connectors
Pull in cables of various lengths and sizes to accommodate system connections
Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair/replace damaged equipment
Install, tag and band copper cables on various classes of surface and submarine Naval Vessels.
Performing all duties required to layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, onboard Navy vessels.
Troubleshooting and testing of copper cables and circuits.
Possess skills and abilities to perform the requirements of a shipboard or airframe electrician's trade with little supervision or guidance.
Knowing how to read and interpret drawings, specifications, technical manuals, design notices, etc.
Knowing and understanding the use of all tools of their trade such as multi-meters, pin crimper's, soldering and expected to accomplish the more complex tasks associated with electrical installation of cable, military circular connectors, panel box and power terminations, etc.
Familiar with basic computer skills
Familiar with MS-Office programs including Word and Excel.
Qualifications
Must be a Marine Electrician with a minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships (technical education may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirement)
Must have experience and multi-pin copper connector certification of cables per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5)
Must be familiar with NAVY Standard Items
Ability to read, understand and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
Individual must have a keen attention to detail and be quality metric driven
Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (current active Secret clearance is a plus).
Fluency in English (verbal and written)
Successful completion of Navy “A” School (“C” School is a plus) or successful completion of a Shipyard or commercial Electrical apprenticeship program (recognized shipyard apprentice graduates are a plus).
Minimum of 4 years' experience as a Navy Electrician's Mate or Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Electrical) preferred
Secret DOD security Clearance preferred
Must have experience and multi-pin copper connector certification of cables per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5)
