RESPONSIBILITIES: Operations Plans, Assembly Line Rationalization, Capital Expenditure, and Manpower Projections. Aid in the development of strategic plans for NPI and product modifications. Work closely with marketing to determine project forecasts and process scope. Understand relative financial formulations. Cost Benefit Analysis and Alternative Design implications. Vendor vs In-House manufacturing costs. Compare in-house to quoted costs and explain probable material consumption and process differences. Perform competitive analysis by reverse engineering competitor's product to produce a probable process and cost. Think abstractly and reasonably to realistically estimate unknowns. Gap analysis: predicted vs actual cost and optimizing process parameters. Utility, AFOQ implications, capital payback and business case evaluation. Cost Reduction: managing current vs entitlement cost. Second sourcing and Supply chain geo-diversity. To include sourcing of materials from different suppliers and manufacturing in different countries. Quantify process implications of competing and variable manufacturing processes, including Stamping, Plating, Laser Welding, Adhesives, Multi-Shot Injection Molding, Manual Assembly, and custom designed Automated Assembly systems. Troubleshoot Design for Manufacturability issues including manufacturing hand-off issues, capacity bottlenecks, staffing issues, line balancing, and general use equipment requirements. Recommend product and process design changes to optimize product function, minimize cost, and streamline manufacturing. Communicate and Coordinate Process Implications with the broader design and Marketing Members of the team as well as Management. Work in environment critical and challenging of your work at times. Position will include occasional travel to domestic and foreign manufacturing sites. QUALIFICATIONS: A BS in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Materials Engineering is desirable. Other engineering degrees and/or certifications will be given consideration. At least 3 to 5 years related experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment is preferred. Background in process engineering is preferred. Other experience levels will be considered. Strong interpersonal skills required to interface effectively with people in a wide range of job functions globally. Very strong problem solving and logical reasoning skills. Tenacity, assertiveness, and a strong inclination toward order, consistency, and detail are required. Ability to present information in a simplified and attractive but logical form to managers and supervisors is necessary. Technical knowledge of Stamping, Plating, Molding, Assembly and related technologies. Knowledge of quality programs such as FMEA, SPC, Fishbone Analysis, and Pareto Charts used to drive quality and cost improvements is a plus. Mastery of unit conversions and the values behind common units of mass, volume, area, time, density, and distance is essential. Demonstrated ability to accept accountability and drive business directed activities with minimal supervision. Ability to work under pressure or when stressed is vital. Strong experience with Microsoft Excel is required. Experience with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint is required. Basic experience with 2D / 3D CAD programs such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or Creo is required, including ability to isolate parts in an assembly, measure part volumes, measure surface areas, and produce sections. Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties * Provide input to Product Development on new product designs to address Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) requirements. * Act as a liaison between Product Development, Manufacturing, and Manufacturing Engineering to assure that project deliverables are communicated and agreed upon. * Assess process failure risks and institute methods of detection and mitigation. * Develop & optimize processes required for new products & equipment. * Work with internal design/equipment engineers and/or outside equipment vendors to specify, purchase and develop new manufacturing equipment and tooling. * Work with validation and quality engineers to develop validation plan for new equipment / processes. * Maintain compliance to Quality System and regulations for new processes and equipment. * Complete protocols and reports for Equipment Acceptance Testing (EAT), Installation Qualifications (IQ), and Operational Qualifications (OQ). * Collaborate with other disciplines as needed to execute Performance Qualification (PQ) activities. * Coordinate pilot production / pre-release manufacturing. * Work closely with Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering to release new processes and equipment into production. * Work closely with Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering to support new processes and equipment that have been recently released into production. * Create and implement required documentation including but not limited to; equipment history files, manufacturing procedures, test methods, BOM's, routings, etc. * Responsible for change orders (ECO/DCO's) required to release and/or update controlled items. * Assist in special projects as needed. * Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related duties as requested. Minimum Requirements * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or equivalent work experience. * Minimum of 3 years of process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or other related experience. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Experience with developing and optimizing new manufacturing processes. * Experience with introducing new equipment / processes into production. * Strong problem solving / troubleshooting skills. * Experience with process control & statistical analysis techniques. * Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical information and prepare written reports. * Able to work in a cross functional team environment. * Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.). * Project management experience is preferred. * Experience in a medical device environment or other regulated industry is preferred.
