SUMMARY: Reports to the Manager of Utility Operations & Design, and is responsible for supervising Power Plant Operating Engineers, Boiler Operators, Incinerator Operators and mechanics in the operation, repair, and scheduled maintenance of high pressure steam boilers, turbo-generators, medical waste incinerators and ancillary equipment to produce electricity for the Hospital and steam for the laundry, kitchen, heating and air conditioning systems, and sterilizes. Plans and participates in major overhauls of equipment and orders equipment and supplies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises Power Plant Operating Engineers, Boiler Operators, Incinerator Operators and mechanics, including interviewing, hiring, scheduling, assigning work to, counseling, training, and when necessary, administering discipline to and terminating subordinates.
Participates in the development of policies and procedures, and communicates policies and procedures to subordinates and ensures their compliance, utilizing proper tools and safety procedures.
Reviews daily logs for indications of problems or the need for preventive maintenance, assigns work to maintenance personnel.
Plans major overhauls of boilers, turbine generators, medical waste incinerators, including scheduling, ordering parts, and inspecting work performed to ensure that state and insurance company regulations are met.
Contacts vendors and equipment manufacturers, reviews specifications and costs; orders new equipment and parts.
Participates in designing and evaluating plant utility distribution systems and ancillary equipment.
Creates and maintains records to ensure Joint Commission requirement compliance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Requires Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical, electrical related engineering field or approved equivalent.
Completion of three years formal training in boiler operations and turbo- generator operations, generally acquired from a technical school or military service.
Requires Stationary Operating Engineer License from the City of Providence within one year of service
EXPERIENCE:
Requires five to seven years experience in steam, turbines and boiler operations.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Perform a range of manufacturing engineering tasks on client company projects.
Meet or exceed customer expectations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (all as required by client companies):
Lead projects to manufacture medical devices. Direct the work of manufacturing technicians.
Participate in Material Review Board activities. Contribute to decisions regarding product and material discrepancies and actions to prevent subsequent problems or discrepancies.
Perform all work in an organized, orderly, safe, compliant (ISO 13485:2016, 21 CFR 820) and controlled manner.
Assist the Production Manager in scheduling production work to meet client companies' needs, prevent bottlenecks, ensure orderly workflow and maximize efficiency.
Ensure that all manufacturing documentation is thorough, complete, and properly stored and controlled.
Identify resources required to complete manufacturing jobs.
Complete IQ/OQ/PQ activities as required.
Identify, specify and procure manufacturing equipment as required to meet production needs.
Assist the Production Manager in performing materials management functions, including supplier management, supplier qualification, materials ordering, materials processing, inventory management, etc.
Provide manufacturing engineering expertise to product development projects. Contribute to the product development process by utilizing Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, 5S, lean engineering, six sigma, or other methodologies.
Generate and maintain Process FMEAs.
Contribute to the design of tools, fixtures and processes for device assembly.
Generate and maintain assembly procedures and routings.
Generate labels and label artwork using Bartender, CodeSoft software and Zebra printer platforms.
Provide estimates of manufacturing costs to support the proposals.
Design and implement new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products as required to achieve manufacturing goals.
General:
Interact with client companies and Sage team members in a professional and courteous manner. Proactively communicate with client companies to ensure an ongoing two-way exchange of information.
Prepare daily timesheets and submit completed timesheets on a weekly basis.
Prepare documentation release and change packages for production documentation. Approve Document Change Orders (DCOs) and obtain approvals from others as required.
Ensure that all work satisfies the requirements of Sage's or the client companies' Quality Systems.
Some local travel (i.e. by car). Occasional long-distance travel (i.e. by plane).

PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Mechanical or IndustrialEngineering. Master's degree in engineering, management or business is a plus.
Some prior medical device manufacturing engineering experience is required.
Ability to interact with client companies in a professional manner.
SolidWorks 3D CAD proficiency is a plus.
Knowledge of probability and statistics, proficiency in Minitab software is a plus.
Flexibility, persistence, resourcefulness, a drive to succeed, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to move throughout manufacturing, office and laboratory space, using a complete variety of office equipment, machinery and tools. Must be able to lift more than 25 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to wear cleanroom gowning items (head cover, coat, gloves, shoe covers, facial covering if needed) and work in cleanroom environment for extended periods of time.
Must be able to work with chemicals found in a manufacturing environment.

Implementation of hands-on manufacturing processes using fabrication and tool & die making skills
Identify, plan, implement, and monitor the use of technology to improve, streamline, and automate manufacturing processes. This includes working with external resources and/or vendors to successfully implement and maintain.
Develop automated and non-automated manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
Identify, analyze, and implement continuous quality improvement in design and manufacturing process efficiency, safety, quality and cost.
Development of work process' to ensure that products are assembled properly and meet quality objectives through work instructions and training.
Perform capacity analysis, manufacturing process design, line layout design for existing and new manufacturing process and machine needs and develop better tools or systems.
Participate in procurement, installation, and runoff of new equipment processes.
Coordinate, provide input, and participate in specification, design, build, development, and launch of new products.
Develop and maintain process documentation in support of IATF certification.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in mechanical or industrialengineering or related field required.
2+ years of hands-on manufacturing engineering required.
Ability to analyze and redesign using Auto CAD / Inventor / SolidWorks required
Experience with Lean Manufacturing Principles and Techniques required
Experience with quality system planning and certification, such as IATF, ISO & TS16949 preferred
Experience in Six Sigma and TPS preferred
3 years of Allen-Bradley PLC programming experience or other brands a plus
3 years of Electrical and controls system troubleshooting a plus

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regularly schedules and assigns work to others.
