The Industrial Engineer is specifically responsible for developing and supporting the production process of all assembly operations. This role will work as part of a team designing manufacturing (DFM), perform production yield and efficiency improvements, and tooling design. This role will directly support the equipment and processes needed for PCBA production.
Job Responsibilities Include:
Optimize and configure processes and equipment for building surface mount electronics assemblies.
Perform design of experiments (DOE) to optimize SMT process yield.

Develop design for manufacturability (DFM) guidelines for PCBA Designs.
Provide solutions to streamline circuit board assembly and test processes.

Lead efforts to uncover root-cause and develop a permanent resolution on issues found during production
Develop a robust set of test machinery that includes critical spares for ensuring complete uptime.
Determine schedule impacts for unforeseen design or process changes in production
Provide clear communication between the design engineering team and the production floor
Concerning product tooling, confer with engineering teams and suppliers to ensure efficient production methods and schedules
Utilize lean manufacturing tools; recommend improvements in production methods, standards, tooling, equipment, layout, procedures, product designs, and employee efficiency
Support the transition of products from development to volume production
Work with the design team in response to manufacturing problems, parts obsolescence, and minor requirement changes
Prepare and maintain documentation required to ensure efficient production
Participate in design reviews to conduct DFM and DFT recommendations with innovative and cost-effective solutions.

Education Requirements and Ideal Experience Includes:
Bachelor's degree in engineering
3+ years of direct experience working in SMT or PCBA process engineering desired.
Hands on experience with optimizing SMT pick and place, reflow oven, conformal coating, or through hole soldering systems

Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphere.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.

Process Development Associate
Industrial engineer job in South San Francisco, CA

Corbion's Algae Ingredients business is based in South San Francisco and leads the industry in developing new applications and markets for algae-based products. We have a range of sustainably produced algae products that deliver breakthrough innovations for human and animal nutrition.
An opportunity is available in our Pilot Plant group, located in Belmont, CA, to support process development and technology transfer efforts emphasizing upstream microorganism cultivation operations. As our next process development associate, you will be an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team focused on the development of new products and processes utilizing Corbion's unique fermentation based technology.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Hands-on role in the setup, operation, and cleaning of bench and pilot scale experiments and equipment, with focus on upstream cultivation of microorganisms and hand-off of fermentation broth to downstream operations.
* Work on lab and pilot-scale processes emphasizing upstream cultivation operations including media preparation, aseptic operations, fermenter setup, seed train development in flasks and fermenters, main fermentation operations for product formation, etc.
* Operate lab and pilot equipment and processes independently, including operational support of fermentation processes over weekends.
* Conduct analytical methods required to monitor processes and materials; hands-on skills with instrumental analysis and wet chemistry.
* Provide detailed observations of experiments. Record data and assist with the analysis of results.
* Write test protocols, SOP's and reports.
* Work within a team framework, with both individual responsibility and support of other scientists. Works closely with the Process Development, R&D, Facilities and Manufacturing Groups.
* Maintains process area and equipment in good working order.
* Support site and operations activities as needed, for example ordering and stocking supplies, conducting maintenance and equipment service, and coordinating activities with vendors.
* Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
* Qualified applicants will possess a A.A. or B.A./B.S. in a technical field (Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a related field), with 2+ years industrial experience with relevant unit operations, or no degree of the like, but at least 5 years of relevant experience.
* Flexible work schedule including weekends. Must be able to work an adjusted weekday schedule with work days from Sunday to Thursday; Friday and Saturday would be OFF-days. Ability to shift work days to accommodate operation activities.
* Experience in operating, cleaning, and maintaining lab and pilot-scale bioprocessing equipment (autoclave, benchtop and sterilize-in-place fermenters, centrifuge, spectrophotometer, etc..) emphasizing cultivation of microbial broth/biomass and associated products produced by fermentation, preferred. Experienced with aseptic operations for cultivating microorganisms preferred.
* Prior experience in analyzing biological materials using common microbiological and wet chemistry methods (glucose, total sugars, dry cell weight, total solids, optical density of microbial cultures, etc.).
* Hands-on mechanical skills with operation and maintenance of bioprocessing and utility system equipment.
* Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and/or use assistive measures to lift materials over 50 lbs.
* Excellent written and verbal communication.
* Able to work both independently in a multi-disciplinary environment and as a key teammate within an interdisciplinary team.
* Capable of working in a fast paced environment without sacrificing accuracy, quality of work, and safety.
* Good organizational and time management skills.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point.
The below range reflects the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future. An employee's title and position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, and business or organizational needs. The base salary range for this role is $31 to $38 per hour.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Main point of contact for process quality issues, including any inspection activities, priorities and escalations.
Collaborate with production teams to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Collaborate with PE/TE/PM to ensure alignment on quality objectives and priorities.
Support regular inspections and audits of manufacturing processes and products to identify defects or deviations from quality standards.
Provide a guidance of the acceptance criteria on the cosmetic issues to QC and MFG team.
Coordinate and resolve Stop line, Quarantine and QRQC (Quick Response Quality Control) issues.
Refocusing QA resources from data-gathering/reporting to using audit for driving process improvement opportunities.
Direct QA resources in performing primarily in-line audits to auditing primary upstream processes.
Establish and build closer links between site QA teams and Engineering / Manufacturing teams.
Work with internal Production, Engineering, Shipping/Receiving, Warehouse, Program Managers and Procurement to meet quality standards.
Develop proactive solutions and implement Quality department strategies across the organization.
Customer-facing site-based QA representative who can effectively present and communicate to internal customers and other areas.
Direct site QA teams to maintain consistent standards & metrics & to share/implement best practices across products.
Review and approve Product and Processes Corrective and Prevention Action Plans (8Ds) and perform additional assessment and analysis as assigned.
Perform failure analyses, root cause analysis and corrective action follow-up.
Assess and evaluate all reliability testing, equipment service and calibration and the verification process.
Execute internal audits on QMS, EMS, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Coordinate UL (Underwriter's Laboratory) and other regulatory factory audits.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or relevant discipline plus 3 years of experience including a combination of 2+ years in contract manufacturing, 3+ years in quality control and 3+ years in a leadership position or equivalent combination of experience.
Prior manufacturing engineering and quality experience.
Proven understanding of mechanical drawing and/or tools.
Experience with server/computer, build or repair processes.
Knowledge of key customer processes (i.e. Microsoft, etc.)
Demonstrated background in interfacing with key customers within the high tech industry and experience working across multiple sites sharing best practices & implementing process improvements.
Working knowledge of MS Office programs; Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Hands on experience with quality system training including understanding of SPC (Statistics Process Control) principles and tools.
Established ability prioritizing and managing multiple projects to meet strict deadlines.
Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, high volume, and diverse environment across functions to produce expected results.
Able to work as business needs require which may include long days, occasional evenings and weekends, and travel to all manufacturing and warehouse locations, for business meetings or training.
