Responsibilities:
Safety & Industrial Hygiene Interns/Co-ops are critical to ensuring that we maintain high standards for protecting people, the environment, and the communities where we work and live. They support all areas of the business. Opportunities are available for interns/co-ops to receive training in various subject areas including Health, Environment, Safety, Security and Product Quality.
Interns/Co-ops assist company professionals in implementing various health, safety, and security planning and compliance activities pertaining to the protection of human health and safety. Duties may include: facility audits; employee training programs; industrial hygiene; design and implementation of industrial hygiene equipment; equipment maintenance; participation in health safety and security projects; incident investigations; emergency preparedness and response; governmental inspections; compliance with government regulations; agency interactions and working as a liaison with other Marathon business units; and other safety and security related projects. Reports will be written and submitted for some projects.
Qualifications:

What You'll Do:
The Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protection is seeking a candidate to fill our Environmental Health Specialist 2 position. This position will function as a technical expert in the sewage treatment systems program and related applications of soil science. This position will:
Conduct surveys of local health district programs and prepare and review survey reports for accuracy and appropriateness of findings (e.g., interprets applicable laws, rules and regulation to correct or modify findings, recommends provisional status or sanctions or corrective actions in the case of non-compliance)
Implement requirements of sewage treatment system program (e.g., reviews and recommends approval of tanks, pretreatment components, alternative wastewater treatment technologies [e.g., drip distribution systems])
Review and evaluate verbal and written complaints related to sewage treatment systems, determine the required investigative work and conduct or direct field/investigative work to resolve the complaint
Provide technical assistance, consultation and training to local health departments, state agencies, grantees, contractors, industry and general public in area of sewage treatment systems specializing in site and soil evaluations and issues
Prepare technical reports and develop survey methodology, fact sheets, procedural guidelines, interpretive reports and technical bulletins
Registration as environmental health specialist pursuant to ORC 3776 & in addition to proceeding, must meet one of following options appropriate to area to be assigned\:
-Graduated from an accredited college or university with at least a baccalaureate degree, including at least forty-five quarter units or thirty semester units of science courses approved by the director AND completed at least 30 months of full-time employment as an environmental health specialist AND must be able to provide own transportation.
-Or Graduated from an accredited college or university with at least a baccalaureate degree, completed a major in environmental health science which included an internship program approved by the director AND completed at least 18 months of full-time employment as an environmental health specialist AND must be able to provide own transportation.
-Or Graduated from an accredited college or university with a degree higher than a baccalaureate degree, including at least forty-five quarter units or thirty semester units of science courses approved by the director AND completed at least 18 months of full-time employment as an environmental health specialist AND must be able to provide own transportation.
-Or 6 mos. exp. as Environmental Health Specialist 1, 65731, in environmental health specialty to be assigned AND must be able to provide own transportation.

**Responsibilities**
+ With assistance and guidance from the NBO Safety Department, identify, evaluate, and inform management of potential safety concerns, including hazardous conditions, work practices and behaviors, and recommend corrective actions.
+ Communicate appropriate safety awareness information to all employees.
+ Identify and inform management and the NBO Safety Department of all potential safety and health regulatory or company practice and procedure violations.
+ Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety programs including SafeSteps, new hire orientation, hoist inspection program, PPE, hot work permits, confined space and job safety analysis (JSA's).
+ Develop or assist in the development of safety documents, bulletins, or other means to maintain high hazard awareness among all employees.
+ Participate, serve as a resource, and assist supervisors in Toolbox Meetings as needed.
+ Responsible for scheduling and conducting lift truck training for plant personnel.
+ Distribute appropriate safety training and hazard awareness information received from the NBO Safety Department.
+ Participate on the Injury Prevention Program (IPP) Team
+ Monitor Safety Programs
+ Assist supervisors in the investigation of all occupational accidents to determine root causes and corrective actions. Maintain appropriate records as required by federal regulations.
+ Prepare periodic reports for management.
+ Act as plant tour guide when necessary.
+ Transport co-workers as needed for medical exams.
+ Attend safety training sessions, seminars, and meetings.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
+ A high school diploma in addition to post high school training in safety and/or ergonomics preferred.
+ Knowledge of OSHA regulatory standards required.
+ Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and Power Point applications.
+ Ability to work independently, prepare power point presentations for employees as well as management, and present and train employees.
+ Lift truck experience is required.
