Role description:

Arcadis is currently seeking an Industrial Hygiene & Safety (IH&S) Field Technician to join our IH&S community of practice team and provide services in the Midwest area. This position requires a hard-working, safe, efficient and dedicated employee that is excited to receive on the job training and expand their skill set. Candidates must be willing and able to travel and work some nights and weekends depending on the project needs. Travel will often be within Michigan but may also be to surrounding States or elsewhere in the U.S. as needs arise

Role accountabilities:

* Performing regulated material (asbestos, lead, etc.) surveys, air sampling and project supervision
* Performing indoor air quality investigations for mold, dust, silica, etc.
* Completing environmental sampling
* Conducting water intrusion investigations
* Conducting Health & Safety inspections and oversight
* Construction oversight during excavation, construction, demolition, and renovation
* Environmental Site Assessments, Phase I and Phase II, Treatment System Operation and Maintenance, groundwater and soil sampling
* Preparing technical reports

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in physical sciences or industrial hygiene, safety, environmental sciences, or related science or engineering fields
* 4 years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

* Asbestos experience and training
* OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER
* OSHA 10-hour
* State specific asbestos licensing or training (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, etc.)

Under direct supervision, entry level position, participates in IH Technician training and qualification program, performs limited IH job functions as assigned by management. Typical job responsibilities are to assist and support Senior IH Technicians, IH Technician Leads, supervision and management in ensuring the monitoring, controls, and processes for reducing and controlling chemical, biological, and physical hazards are in compliance with all applicable procedures, policies, contractual/operational requirements, safety guidelines, DOE Orders and local, state, and federal regulations. Typical job responsibilities do not include directing work activities or utilizing discretionary decision making authority. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:
Provides assigned technical, administrative, or functional support to the management team

Performs assigned tasks according to detailed instructions and established policies and procedures

Analyze data, within a limited scope, and compare readings with pre-determined limits

Assists in processing basic industrial hygiene analyses

Performs routine calculations according to specific guidelines and formulas

Assists in generating reports, charts and spreadsheets as needed

Provides administrative and/or functional support to the IH team

Perform duties of general/routine complexity in nature

Other job related duties as assigned

Maintains knowledge of and demonstrates ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner

Actively participates in Safety Work Groups

Requirements

High School diploma/GED and 1 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Typical experience ranges from 1 - 4 years.

Active DOE Security clearance or the ability to obtain

Radiological training is required or the ability to obtain

Intermediate PC skills including Microsoft software

Basic understanding of federal and state policies and regulations, project policies and requirements

Intermediate interpersonal and communication skills

Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.

**Description**

Under general supervision, assist in and support the identification, assessment, reporting and correction of workplace environmental factors, unsafe conditions, and behaviors at assigned site.

+ Assists in collecting industrial hygiene samples of air, vapors, gases, dust, fumes and other potentially toxic materials for analysis

+ Assists in performing exposure assessments, analyses of operational procedures, audits, and incident investigations

+ Develop a current knowledge of Company, OSHA, MSHA and other regulatory standards

+ Assists in the care and maintenance of industrial hygiene sampling equipment

+ Assists in the development and recommendation of appropriate remedial actions in response to unsafe conditions or practices

+ Perform data entry related to industrial hygiene sampling campaigns

+ Drafts appropriate reports and presentations for management

+ Perform other duties as required.

**Qualifications**

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ Two (2) years of industry experience including relevant H&S and/or analytical experience (H&S examples: emergency response team, crew safety leader, safety committee member; Analytical examples: lab technician, sample collection, quality assurance / quality control), **including** one (1) year of experience as H&S technician, IH technician, laboratory technician, environmental technician, or closely related work; **OR**

+ Associates degree in a related field and **no** experience

**Preferred**

+ Prior experience in collecting industrial hygiene samples of air, dust, & other potential toxic materials for analysis

+ At least one (1) year of experience working in a mine

**Criteria/Conditions**

+ Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds.

+ Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment.

+ Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.

+ Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as allowed by applicable state laws
