We are a growing organization seeking a talented Industrial Hygienist to join our team as a pivotal member here at PBF Energy. This role is located at Torrance Refining Company in Torrance, CA.

The Industrial Hygienist develops, administers and delivers IH systems and services to business operations. Industrial Hygienists provide delivery of industrial hygiene services and provide direction to contractors and technicians performing HSE services on behalf of the Industrial Hygienist.
RESPONSIBILITES
Performs Industrial hygiene (IH) activities as identified in the annual IH work plans, including but not limited to identification, assessment and control of health risks within business activities and assets.Develops annual IH Plans for associated businesses Provides professional IH support and oversight of IH programs and practices at associated business locations and activities, including Torrance Refinery and Torrance Logistics.Serves as the Radiation Safety Officer for TORC; includes the maintenance of the site's nuclear materials licenses, oversight of periodic inspections, storage, purchase and disposal of nuclear materials, as well as advising the business as to appropriate application of nuclear materials Observes and follows accepted IH professional practices in all phases of service delivery; examples of IH practices may be found in the Industrial Hygiene Operations Manual (IHOM), maintained by the IH Best Practice Network.Implements new compliance and improvement initiatives with the approval of ManagementParticipates in network efforts Prepares and submits budget information Supports PSMS and is the administrator of PSMS 5.2Provides technical and functional guidance to business partners Participates in emerging issues analysis and resolution Participates in emergency response in assigned roles Serves at the primary SME for IH (PBF appointed role) Participates as the PBF representative on the AFPM National IH Subcommittee (PBF appointed role) Conducts exposure monitoring and sample management, per IHOM practices Reviews and approves new personal protective equipment Maintains IH associated records and documentation Maintains IH Equipment

Job Description/Duties

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for an Asbestos Inspector/Industrial Hygienist. The Asbestos Inspector/Industrial Hygienist is responsible for assisting in asbestos activities by scheduling, coordinating, and inspecting the work of contractors and/or any other authorized persons involved in the removal, encapsulation or air monitoring of asbestos-containing materials. Work involves responsibility for ensuring that all asbestos project work is done in compliance and adherence to applicable federal, state, and local regulations and safety procedures. Serves as contact person to be notified in the event of suspect asbestos containing material and/or damaged material.

+ Serves as the asbestos project manager by performing the following tasks relating to repair of asbestos damage: Establishing work priorities; scheduling, assigning and coordinating all project work and activities; Selecting and issuing proper documentation for abatement construction, encapsulation, and air monitoring. Additionally, monitors on a day-to-day basis abatement construction and air monitoring.

+ Works on a daily basis with contractor and/or any authorized personnel to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations.

+ Inspect work in progress or finished work to ensure that quality standards are adhered to and that the work is being done in accordance with contract specifications and time schedules.

+ Notifies supervisor and/or other officials concerning any non-conformance of project work, violations and/or problem situations.

+ Checks records to determine if suspect material has or has not been identified as asbestos material.

+ Samples suspect material, fills out necessary documents and forwards such samples and documents to a certified testing laboratory/facility. Provides necessary documentation after results have been received from sample test for records.

+ In the event of damage to asbestos-containing material, determines the extent of the damage and if there is a potential for fiber release.

+ Works closely with Facilities, Maintenance, Planning, Design and Construction Departments for development and execution of asbestos abatement projects.

Experience & Education (include Required and Preferred)

Required Experience & Skills

+ Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, blueprints, schematic drawings, or sketches to determine location, size, capacity, and type of component or unit.

+ Knowledge of and experience with building investigations & inspections.

+ Knowledge of procedures and regulations pertaining to hazardous materials.

+ Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.

+ Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).

+ Ability to wear appropriate respiratory protection.

+ Shall possess at least three years (within the past seven years) experience in at least one aspect of asbestos abatement work or completion of a formal apprenticeship Asbestos Training program.

+ Shall also have a valid EPA accreditation as an Asbestos Abatement Building Inspector and Project Designer and Management Planner.
