MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Safely and efficiently perform painting labor, to complete construction associated with building cruise ships and tug boats. Aggressive work ethic with a focus on production.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & TASKS:
* Ability to be able to listen, comprehend and follow instructions
* Surface preparation, including but not limited to picking up trash and steel, vacuuming out water in the hull deck, hand tool cleaning and power tool cleaning, sandblasting, solvent cleaning, etc.
* Use of professional coating applications
* Applying primers (Zinc & Epoxy), intermediate coats (Epoxy, Urethanes) and finish coats. (Acrylics Urethanes and Anti Fouling)

MAJOR DUTIES
Application of Coating Materials
Performs coating work using accepted methods of the trade, including special finishing techniques such as marbling, mottling and graining. Plans the materials, tools and techniques needed for the work and completes the work with little or no advice. Determines the methods, devices and materials that are best suited to each surface to achieve a glossy finish, grained effect or a finish that must meet specified thickness levels or other criteria.

Refinishes metal cabinets by matching colors with established office furniture. Prepares surfaces by using metal resins and plastic compounds, obtains smooth surfaces with abrasive compounds, evens out dents and treats with pre-coating agents. Prepares and applies coating materials using accepted trade devices.
Refinishes doors, baseboards, floors and interior trim in each of the offices. Prepares surfaces, obtains smooth surfaces, evens out dents and treats surfaces. Prepares and applies coating materials using accepted trade devices.
Applies decorative finishes including striping, stippling and graining. Matches colors, shading and textures of interior finishes where exact matching with previous finish is required.

Preps surfaces for special effects, such as filling, shaping and leveling with metal and synthetic resins.
Applies special finishing techniques, such as marbling, mottling and/or graining.
Preparation of Surfaces for Coating
Prepares surfaces for the application of coating materials using techniques such as abrasive blasting. Determines the methods, techniques, devices and materials best suited to the surface finish. For example, determines the methods and materials to use on different types of surfaces in preparation for a glossy finish or grained effect.
Ensures that surfaces meet smoothness, level and shape requirements, using accepted methods and techniques. Prepares surfaces by methods such as smoothing with pumice and rottenstone; filling, shaping and leveling with metal and synthetic resins; and mixing and applying pre-coating agents such as picking and alkali compounds. Evens out dents out dents and scars by burning-in processes.
Uses standard tools and equipment such as scrapers, putty knives, wire brushes, sandpaper, trowels, screeds, straight edges, viscosity testers and thickness gauges. Performs refinishing work or assists sandblasters in preparing surfaces. Erects and dismantles staging and scaffolding.

The incumbent is responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized.

What will I be doing?

**Summary**
The Painter will be assisting in the paint department with various functions. This position needs attention to detail as well as an eye for defects. A successful candidate will be safety minded and a great team player. Excellent attitude and attendance would be great contributions to this position as well.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
+ Responsible for safe operation of all paint equipment and spray guns
+ Performs equipment, chassis repairs in preparation of paint
+ Spray paints chassis, parts, and equipment
+ Clean grease and dirt on chassis and equipment for paint
+ Sand, fill and prime unit or equipment as part of preparation
+ Communicate with lead on specs on color scheme to be painted on equipment
+ Verifies that equipment or parts are ready to be sprayed
+ Complies with all company safety rules pertaining to the paint shop
+ Must be able to document paint usage daily
+ Must wear PPE equipment while sanding, grinding, painting
+ Able to follow written and verbal instructions
+ Assure ongoing compliance with safety, quality and company requirements
+ Mix paint in preparation for paint
+ Cleans all paint equipment (spray guns, pots, and paint lines)
+ Responsible to keep clean and safe work area
+ Other assignments as needed
**Required Skills and Qualifications**
+ Previous experience of painting application and paint prepping
+ Through knowledge of the methods, tools and spray equipment used in the repair and painting of equipment
+ Through knowledge of skill in the use of spray guns and applications on to equipment or parts
+ Attention to detail and high quality of standards
+ Ability to interpret and work from paint diagrams and paint charts
+ Ability to follow paint mixing and cleaning procedures
+ Must have computer skills
+ Knowledge of paint mixing measurements and processes
+ Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately
+ Ability to perform general maintenance on paint equipment also preventive maintenance on paint booths
+ Good decision and judgement skills
+ Knowledge of hand tools (wrenches, screwdriver, hammer, etc.)
+ High school diploma or GED
**Preferred Skills and Qualifications**
+ Previous forklift experience
+ Strong communication skills
+ Proven commitment to safety
**Working Conditions**
+ Attendance - The ability to work as scheduled with punctual attendance, Monday-Thursday plus any additional hours/days necessary to meet business demands.
+ The job is performed under extreme temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
**Physical Requirements**
+ Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing on ladders and platforms of heights above 42", significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling throughout a 10-12 hour day, and up to 60 hours per week.
+ Manual dexterity - The ability to type or operate common mechanical tools and equipment up to 12 hours per day, 60 hours per week.
+ Lifting - The ability to bend, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs.
