Infineon Technologies company history timeline

2001

By the end of 2001, Siemens had reduced its ownership of Infineon shares to 41.3 percent.

In a letter to shareholders on the company Web site, CEO and President, Ulrich Schumacher, stated that the market collapse for semiconductors in 2001 had to do with the significant decline in price and demand for memory products and communications markets that usually drive growth.

In the fall of 2001, one publication suggested that Infineon was seeking a DRAM partner and cited examples of semiconductor companies that have found acquisitions to be advantageous.

In 2001 the site was restructured within the New BIP Project, therefore the whole bipolar pressure-contact products assembly and testing were made by Cegléd.

2002

However, Electronics Weekly on March 13, 2002 reported that Infineon "has completed talks with two Taiwanese DRAM manufacturers, Mosel Vitelic and Winbond, who signed agreements to help the company in the upcoming market recovery."

The goal of the program was to gain cash savings, including capital expenditures, of more than 1.5 billion Euro by the end of the 2002 fiscal year.

IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) assembly and production was started from 2002.

2009

In November 2009, Infineon sells its Wireline Communication division to Lantiq.

Infineon Technologies expanded its semi-conductor manufacturing in 2009 by investing more than 10 million euro to buildings and manufacturing equipments in Cegléd, Hungary.

2011

Since 2011, work has been underway on the world’s first high-volume facility for the production of power semiconductors on 300mm silicon wafers at Dresden.

2015

In January 2015, Infineon takes over the US company International Rectifier Corporation for 3 billion US dollars.

With resounding success: In 2015, Infineon has already delivered the ten-millionth radar chip for cars and is nominated for the prestigious Future Award by the German Federal President.
