Position Description The IT Desktop Support Technician provides day-to-day technical assistance for City staff by supporting computers, cellular and desktop phones, software, networking, peripherals and audio-visual equipment. The technician installs, configures, maintains, and repairs technology assets; manages user accounts and access; responds to and documents service tickets and knowledge base articles; and troubleshoots hardware, software, and connectivity issues through in-person, phone, email, and remote support. EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION: Qualifications Required: • Knowledge of geography and geographic information systems as normally obtained through the completion of a BA/BS in Geography/Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, MIS, Planning or a closely related field. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel as demonstrated by the ability to write formulas and manipulate data for analysis and reporting purposes. • An intermediate familiarity with PowerPoint is required. • 2+ years' experience performing geographic analysis is required. • Requires experience with large databases and the management of such databases to perform file downloads as described above. • Ability to perform spatial analysis through basic SQL and spatial queries; • Ability to perform quality control checks of non-standard GIS data and to do so with the highest degree of attention to detail.
