About the Role We are seeking an early in career skilled and driven Systems Engineer II to support the development, execution, and delivery of a full lifecycle spacecraft mission. This includes support of early mission architecture and system design, requirements derivation, system detailed design, manufacturing, integration, test, verification and validation, launch, and on-orbit operations. The systems engineer will support technical development for all program efforts. This role is high-impact, and significantly cross-functional, offering the opportunity to engage with and contribute across many engineering disciplines. In this role you will work closely with internal program teams to enable success of the spacecraft and mission. This role will report to the Senior Manager, Spacecraft Systems within the R&D organization. Responsibilities Support the planning, design, and development of system requirements for space missions Define mission goals, validate against system performance, and support cross-functional teams to achieve those goals Support requirements development, verification, and validation to ensure technical and programmatic success. Work directly with customers to guide mission development from early design through launch and validation Support interface definition and management - developing and maintaining Interface Control Documents (ICDs) Help develop test plans, guide execution, and ensure test results are well-documented and actionable Support key system reviews - SRR, PDR, CDR - and contribute technical guidance to subsystem design (communications, ADCS, propulsion, avionics, structure, etc.) Support mission operations coordination, anomaly resolution, and forward-thinking ops planning Proactively identify and manage risks across program phases Navigate and support space system regulatory processes (orbital debris assessments, spectrum licensing, etc.) Preferred Qualifications: S./M.S. in Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline Familiarity with systems engineering processes and concepts First-hand experience on a small to medium-sized technology development program Experience with spacecraft design, communications systems, mission design, or spacecraft test preferred Experience with requirement management methodologies and tools (e.g., DOORS, Stell, Jama) Strong leadership instincts and skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Programming proficiency (Python preferred) Creative problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges and risks. The Role We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support the design, integration, and management of the Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System (ATARS). This role involves coordinating hardware and software development, ensuring system requirements are met, and supporting integration with military aircraft platforms. The Systems Engineer will work across multiple engineering disciplines-including hardware, software, avionics, optics, and AR displays-to ensure ATARS is delivered to specification and ready for operational use. Responsibilities Allocate high-level ATARS system requirements into subsystem and component specifications. Conduct trade studies and technical analysis to support design decisions and performance optimization. Develop and maintain system-level documentation, including block diagrams, interface control documents (ICDs), and requirements databases. Manage allocations of weight, power, and other system resources across components. Support hardware and software integration with avionics, sensors, and AR display systems. Coordinate and oversee system integration and verification activities in both lab and aircraft environments. Collaborate with test engineering to plan and execute verification and validation of ATARS requirements. Participate in Change Control Board (CCB) processes and provide impact assessments for design or requirement changes. Identify and manage technical risks, ensuring mitigation plans are in place. Support government and customer technical reviews, demonstrations, and acceptance testing. Serve as a technical point of contact across internal teams and with external partners to ensure alignment on system design and performance. Required Qualifications 5+ years of systems engineering experience with complex, multidisciplinary systems. Experience with hardware/software integration, particularly in aerospace or defense systems. Familiarity with avionics systems, aircraft integration, or similar platforms. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in trade studies and technical decision support. Proficiency with requirements management tools and structured engineering processes. Effective written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and cross-team coordination. Preferred Qualifications Experience with AR/VR technologies and head-mounted display systems. Background in military aircraft integration, avionics, or mission systems. Required:- Active TS/SCI Security Clearance Job Description:- What You'll Do Detailed oriented systems engineering to understand the in-depth use of Ball spacecraft and the interdependences between spacecraft subsystems. Create and document the commands and telemetry for a spacecraft in a useful and easily understood manner throughout the life of the spacecraft development, integration and test, and mission operations. Control and maintain the configuration of Ball Spacecraft via Flight Software Tables throughout the life of the spacecraft development, integration and test, and mission operations. Own and implement the command and telemetry system and tools for Spacecraft Integration and Test, as well as certain flight ground systems. Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. What You'll Need BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 5 or more years related experience. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment. May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required. May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
