Three school districts serve the overall student population for Chowchilla and the surrounding area, including Alview-Dairyland Union School District (ADUSD) and Chowchilla Elementary School District (CESD), which both feed students into the Chowchilla Union High School District programs. Both ADUSD and CESD are K-8 programs. The City of Chowchilla has a population of roughly 19,000 people including the population of two correctional facilities; one for men (Valley State Prison) and one for women (Central California Women's Facility). Both facilities are located outside of Chowchilla.
