Summit Academy OIC in Minneapolis has an exciting opportunity for a qualified IT professional to join our academic IT program.

The IT Instructor teaches multiple courses at Summit Academy OIC in the IT Program, which specifically Java I and Java II courses. This could be courses assigned specifically to this instructor and/or within a short-term or a long-term substitute capacity. These courses are taught both in person and online via a hybrid learning model. This instructor will develop curriculum, grade assignments, and provide guidance to IT Program students in need. This position continuously works to ensure Summit’s mission to prepare students for living wage jobs through training, curriculum development, and classroom management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develops and designs curriculum specific to the core competencies of Summit Academy’s IT certificate program. Teaches students in a competency-based format through lectures, demonstration, and learning-centered instruction, both in person and online. Manages the learning environment through keeping accurate records, grading assignments, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school/campus academic and attendance policies. Offers tutoring and assistance to IT Program students in need. Plans appropriate differentiation strategies to address individual learning needs and styles of urban adult students. Regularly assesses student learning by using multiple forms of assessment to determine grades in accordance with established standards and criteria. Models learning and behavior consistent with expectations for students. Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional school setting which requires instructors to maintain professional appearance and attitude. The work environment is fast paced and requires time management and prioritization of job duties.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job requires the employee to stand for significant periods of time while instructing. In order to perform the necessary duties, the instructor must be able to hear and speak. This job requires 40% time instructing and moving and 60% sitting and doing paperwork. Instructor should be able to lift up to 25 lbs.


POSITION TYPE AND HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act. It is not eligible for overtime. This position will do prep, teach and grade primarily in the afternoon, Monday through Friday. Night and weekend work may be required to meet the expectations of the position.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s Degree in an IT or related field or at least 1-3 years equivalent experience 1-2 years teaching/professional training experience Experience with Java, C++, C#, Python, and other objective oriented programming languages. Knowledge of SQL and Java IDE's.


PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


A Master’s Degree in an IT or related field More than 2 years teaching/professional training experience 2 years of experience in programming languages including Java, Java Script, C++, C#, Python and other object-oriented programming languages. Experience in mobile application development. Experience teaching adults. Experience teaching online, particularly in Canvas.

Advanced Technology information technology instructor job description

This position shall provide subject matter expertise and certified content knowledge and conduct course instruction by applying adult learning principles, theories, and practices, and in some cases use a blended learning approach through textbooks and materials, mission-relevant role-playing techniques and performance-based exercises to reinforce learning objectives, and use of constructive feedback from students and staff that supports improved knowledge and skill acquisitions.

This instructor shall provide and train students in the necessary courses to obtain and maintain professional certifications, providing in-depth instruction in the appropriate levels of credentialing and professional certifications, and by ensuring all students meet the minimum levels required.
Required Education and Experience:
Have two (2) years teaching IT-related topics within the last four (4) years. Have operational experience in CSWF contained in DoD Directive 8140 and SECNAV M-5239.2 Have MCT certification or Certified USN Instructor (NEC-805A)/or other Service equivalent or Navy Master Training Specialist Designation/or other Service equivalent or CompTIA Certified Technical Trainer+ Must be Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) in each Microsoft topic/exam for which they instruct. Have at a minimum CSWF foundation security, technical training, and minimum credential applicable to their CSWF position. Be able to complete the Cisco Certified Academic Instructor course Be able to provide oral and/or written reports as required Be able to adapt instructional methods based on analysis of individual student and group needs Be able to use role-playing techniques and performance-based exercises to reinforce learning objectives Desired – Instructor certification or designation such as a teaching certificate, certified professional instructor, master training specialist, or adjunct faculty certification.

Capability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Possess and maintain all required training and certifications.

The work will be performed at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, CT. Normal business hours are anticipated to be comprised of two eight-hour shifts (dual shifted) that will occur between the hours of 0630 and 0030 daily Monday through Friday with daytime class hours from 0630-1530 and evening class hours from 1530-0030. Schedule does include recognized Federal Holidays or when the Government facility is closed due to local or national emergencies, administrative closings, or similar Government directed facility closings. Overtime will not be authorized. Remote work not available.
