The InformationTechnology Assurance Specialist's primary function is working with Special Access Programs (SAPs) supporting SMC Directorates and/or AFSPC Operational Units. The position will provide “day-to-day” support for Collateral, Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Program (SAP) activities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Establish complex operational software configuration controls and system interfaces for computer system(s) assigned.

Analyze and troubleshoot system anomalies to ensure optimum equipment performance.
Prepare system for operational use and support operational tests.

Perform VTC System Administration, Scheduling, & Configuration, Account Creations, changes, & deletions, Hardware/Software System Configuration, upgrades and modifications, Media Control & Accountability, and COMSEC account/equipment management.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field or 4 additional years of equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
8+ years total related experience
6+ years of relevant SCI experience.
Must have CompTIA Sec + certificate as outlined in DoD Directive 8570.01-M for Information Assurance Technician Level 2 and Information Assurance Manager Level 1 within 6 months of the date of hire.
Must complete training on Joint Security Implementation Guidance (JSIG) and Risk Management Framework (RMF) Information Security Continuous Monitoring (ISCM) (if supported organization requires development of AIS accreditation packages).
Willingness to travel with the scope of the Program's Area of Responsibility (AOR) (note- could be extensive and will include both air and ground transportation).
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years of SAP related experience highly desired.
Working knowledge of Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) technologies and data backup technologies to include communication security (COMSEC) integration.
Working knowledge of JAFAN 6/0, DCID/JAFAN 6/3, DCID/JAFAN 6/9, and Joint DODIIS/Cryptologic SCI Information Systems Security Standards, Common Criteria, and System Security Policy as they relate to C&A for Legacy systems.
Working knowledge and current relevant experience with PL1 & PL2 systems; experience with PL3 & PL4 cross domain solutions desired.

About This Role
Summer internships will range between the months of May and August. All dates dependent upon the university schedule of the selected students. Internships are full-time and on-site in Los Angeles, CA.
The flight software team is responsible for writing the embedded code that runs onboard Varda's spacecraft - enabling autonomous control, data handling, and fault protection in space. Compensation:
The estimated base compensation range for this position is $20 per hour at the time of posting. Mission Software (Python) Internship - Spring 2026

Low Earth orbit is open for business. Varda is accelerating the development of commercial space infrastructure, from in-orbit pharmaceutical processing to reliable and economical reentry capsules. About This Role
Spring internships will range between the months of January and May. All dates dependent upon the university schedule of the selected students. Internships are full-time and on-site in Los Angeles, CA.
In this role, you will contribute to developing internal mission control software used by engineers and operators to monitor, command, and analyze Varda's spacecraft. This includes building automation scripts, backend services, and telemetry systems that ensure smooth and reliable operations across all phases of flight. You'll work closely with the flight software, test, and systems teams to help bring our missions from launch to recovery.
Internships at Varda are optimal for students looking to grow technically and professionally while working on impactful projects critical to the company's success. You will be working on a collaborative team in a startup environment while being able to learn from some of most accomplished and experienced aerospace professionals in the world. We're dedicated to providing an experience that will let your decisions and contributions help drive Varda's success.
Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain Python-based tools that interface with flight and ground systems
* Assist in scripting and automation to support mission operations
* Contribute to backend systems used for telemetry, data processing, or test coordination
* Help ensure mission software reliability and maintainability through good software engineering practices
Basic Qualifications
* Proficiency in Python
* Understanding of core computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, OS, etc.)
* Ability to debug complex software issues
* Comfort working in Linux-based environments
Preferred Skills And Experience
* Experience contributing to software projects outside class
* Knowledge of signals and systems, digital design, or embedded development is a bonus
* Experience on college "project teams" (e.g., rocketry, robotics, etc.)
