This is an exempt position, which is an entry level technical and analytical position assisting with the administration and support of the City of Plantation's security infrastructure. The Junior IT Security Administrator will help to implement security controls, conduct audits, and support security awareness initiatives to safeguard our systems from cyber threats. This role will also support the Help Desk as needed by providing technical assistance to end users.
Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.Monitor and analyze network traffic, system logs, and alerts from security tools (such as firewalls, IDS/IPS) to detect signs of suspicious or malicious activity.
Assist in the investigation and resolution of security incidents, including malware infections, phishing attacks, and unauthorized access.
Conduct system vulnerability and compliance assessments and remediation across OS, Cloud, and Infrastructure
Implement and monitor basic security controls such as access control lists, antivirus solutions, and encryption technologies.
Conduct regular audits and reviews of user access, ensuring compliance with security policies and best practices.
Assist with the creation and delivery of security awareness training programs, helping employees recognize and respond to cyber threats.
Prepare reports on security incidents and trends, providing analysis and recommendations for mitigating future risks.
Perform remote trouble shooting through diagnostic techniques and pertinent questions.
Record events/problems/resolutions within the internal tracking system.
Utilize the help desk ticketing system.
Research and make recommendations for purchasing decisions.
Performs related duties as required and as directed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of network design, principles, practices, analysis and security.
Knowledge of methods and equipment utilized in monitoring and troubleshooting network and communication system.
Network troubleshooting and infrastructure experience including firewalls (CISCO).
Security hardening on Azure Active Directory.
Prior experience in backup strategy and implementation specifically with ransomware concerns.
Prior Help Desk Support experience.
Minimum of 2 years experience managing, configuring, and troubleshooting Azure Active Directory.
Minimum of 2 years experience in a variety of cybersecurity technologies including Crowdstrike and Workspace One.
Ability to effectively analyze and solve problems through a systematic and logical approach.
Ability to effectively analyze and resolve security issues.
Ability to work with vendors and assist in procurement process.
Ability to relate technical communication issues clearly, both orally and in writing, to non-technical individuals.
Ability to work with confidential data and maintain such confidence.
Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees, City officials and the general public.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in computer science or closely related field, or any equivalent combination of education, experience or training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered. Requires four (4) years experience in actively working, planning, managing and implementing IT Security system solutions or closely related experience. CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate), Security+ certificates required.
