Description & Details: The IT Support Intern/Assistant will provide day-to-day technical support for the faculty, staff, and graduate students within the Departments of Plant Pathology and Plant Sciences. This position involves assisting with hardware and software troubleshooting, maintaining and setting up computing devices, supporting network and printer connectivity, and helping ensure smooth operation of classroom and office technology. This role is ideal for a student who is dependable, detail-oriented, and interested in building practical IT skills in an academic setting. The intern will work closely with department personnel and the campus IT team to resolve issues efficiently and contribute to maintaining a reliable, user-friendly technology environment. Flexibility, clear communication, and a willingness to learn are essential for success in this position. Job Responsibilities * Provide first-level technical support to faculty, staff, and graduate students in the Departments of Plant Pathology and Plant Sciences, addressing hardware, software, and connectivity issues across Windows and Mac systems. * Install, configure, and maintain computers, printers, projectors, AV equipment, and commonly used software such as Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel, SAS, Zoom, and other department-approved tools. * Assist with user account setup, system access, and data management tasks including file organization, backups, and secure storage practices. * Reimage and prepare laptops and desktops for new users, ensuring systems are properly updated, configured, and compliant with departmental IT standards. * Maintain and track departmental IT inventory including devices, accessories, and software licenses; monitor system compliance and recommend upgrades or replacements as needed. * Act as a liaison between the departments and NDSU Agriculture Communication (AgComm) and central IT by coordinating support requests through the Freshservice ticketing system when applicable and communicating directly for other IT-related matters to ensure timely issue resolution and information flow. * Coordinate the preparation, documentation, and disposal of outdated equipment through the NDSU Surplus Property process. * Keep IT workspaces organized, assist with cable and equipment management, and maintain a clean, functional tech environment. * Create and update internal documentation such as user guides, troubleshooting steps, and setup procedures to support department-wide IT knowledge sharing. * Perform other related IT support duties as assigned, based on departmental needs. Work Schedule: This is an in-person commitment that requires to work on-site 20h/week at Walster Hall and Loftsgard Hall, NDSU. We will work around school schedule. Advertised Pay: Pay will start at $15+ depending on experience Minimum Qualifications: * Currently enrolled undergraduate graduate student at NDSU in a related field such as Information Technology, Computer Science, Agricultural Systems, or any discipline with an interest in IT support. * Basic knowledge of computer hardware, Windows/Mac operating systems, and common software such as Microsoft Office, Zoom, Adobe Acrobat, or a willingness to learn. * Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to users with varying levels of tech experience. * Organized, dependable, and able to manage tasks independently while also working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and IT teams. * Familiarity with or openness to learn new tools like SAS and the Freshworks ticketing system is a plus.
