Responsibilities
Maintain and repair building and process equipment including distillation stills, general evaporating equipment, Pot Stills, cooling towers, salt towers, cookers, pumps, HVAC, and boilers
Performs preventative maintenance, conducts inspections, troubleshoots, diagnoses failures & deficiencies & performs necessary corrections
Troubleshoot and repair support equipment
Guide Mechanics in their responsibility
LOTO (lock out tag out)
Pump & piping installs
Ensures, understands, and has ownership for area specific permit required compliance standards.
Responsible for maintaining a clean work environment.
Performs other assignments as assigned by management.

Completes and maintains all service, parts/inventory records in a timely & accurate manner.

What does it take to work at Synergy?
HS Diploma or equivalent
3-5+ years maintenance experience in a plant or Industrial environment preferred
3+ years' excellent experience troubleshooting various pumps, as well as repair/rebuild and align pumps with motors
Be able to identify the difference between a positive displacement pump and a centrifugal or a vacuum pump.
Plant maintenance experience in one of the following areas: Preventative Maintenance, Installations, variety of pumps, and blowers
Familiar with pressure temperature flow and level instrumentation, distillation stills, general evaporating equipment, pot stills, cooling towers, salt towers, cookers, pumps, HVAC, and boilers a plus!
Familiar with 480v and 3-phase
Strong troubleshooting skills
Willing and eager to learn

**Position Purpose:**
Under direction of facility leadership, the Maintenance Technician perform all maintenance functions, including but not limited to preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on all buildings and grounds and all plant machinery and equipment.
**Key Job Activities:**
+ Performs all duties and tasks in accordance manufacturer and Stericycle procedures and with strict adherence to relative safety programs and standards including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Confined Space, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, etc.
+ Performs diagnostic evaluation on equipment and makes repairs when needed and is willing to be on-call and respond to urgent repairs. Ensures that repairs are performed properly in the shortest amount of time possible to maintain the highest level of operational readiness.
+ Performs routine, preventive, corrective, and scheduled maintenance on a variety of machinery within the plant including but not limited to:
+ Autoclave process equipment/systems maintenance, including controls, Process Logic Controllers (PLC), combustion air blowers, pressure controls and conveyance systems.
+ Air pollution control devices, air cooled condensers, spray condensers, recirculating systems, and carbon beds.
+ Various Pumps and related components.
+ Hydraulic systems including hoses, valves, and cylinders.
+ pH control and chemical injection
+ Fire tube boiler and ancillary equipment, steam delivery systems, water softeners and other water treatment equipment, air handling equipment, commercial washers, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and conveyor systems.
+ Electrical generator systems.
+ General air pneumatics, including air compressor, regulators, solenoid valves, 2-way and 3-way valve, tubing installation, pneumatic pumps and related systems.
+ General plumbing including but not limited to hard piping, CPVC/PVC, copper, black pipe
+ Performs light electrical maintenance on all plant equipment to include 480V/ 240V/ 120V/ 24V powers systems. PLC, robotics troubleshooting and 4 to 20 milliamp control loop systems.
+ Light to heavy fabrication, demonstrating proficient welding (arc/mig/tig); acetylene torch; plasma cutting; grinding cuttings skills.
+ Assists Facility/Maintenance Manager by performing general work or other assignments necessary to ensure a safe, clean, healthy, and efficient facility and vigorously support Stericycle's commitment to Safety.
+ Documents results through completed work orders or in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) based on schedule and priority or as required.
+ Performs other related duties as required or requested.
+ Stays current on all required safety training.
+ Shares time to be on-call and ready to complete emergency or urgent repairs outside of normally scheduled shift.

**Experience:**

Work Schedule
Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eight week rotating of on-call required
Primary Role
Performs a variety of tasks in assisting and participating in the locating, laying, repairing, and extending underground water mains and distribution pipes.
Key Accountabilities
Sets up barricades and places safety lights around work site to protect workers from street traffic.
Breaks up asphalt and concrete using pneumatic power tools for trenching and compaction.
Manually digs valve boxes and curb boxes using shovel and digging bar.
Guides pipe sections, valves, and fittings into position and holds pieces steady while worker tightens connections.
Taps into pressurized water mains.
Flares and connects copper and plastic piping.
Installs repair clamps on pressurized water mains and service lines.
Operates valves and fire hydrants.
Investigates complaints and determines corrective action per company procedure.
Operates pneumatic and/or hydraulic boring equipment.
Completes all necessary forms, sketches, field notes, and uses maps and records.
Drives vehicles and/or trucks in performance of general job duties.
Obtains and records water meter readings in company's service area to ensure accurate billing of customers' accounts within established timeframes.
Accurately measures pressure and flow at meter to detect leaks.
Responds to customer inquiries accurately and professionally.
Performs turn-ons and turn-offs as necessary.
Directs the activities of any personnel assigned.

Knowledge/Skills

Position Summary:
An entry position that is required to participate in a skills-based training course. Associate must pass specific training sessions by defined dates after date of hire. Position Summary:
An entry position that is required to participate in a skills-based training course. Associate must pass specific training sessions by defined dates after date of hire. Once trained; performs work involving skilled duties of a maintenance mechanic. Duties include some knowledge of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of plant equipment and facilities. . Successful Associate will complete additional training courses through the Charleston Water System Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Program.
Essential Functions:
Performs skilled duties of moderate difficulty; includes some knowledge of alignment, bearings, seals, lubrication, drives, mech. principles, torque, fasteners, plumbing, piping, and pumps.
Assists with the more difficult assignments in skilled labor such as maintenance of complex diesel or gasoline-powered generator and pump systems.
Performs general maintenance and repair of machinery and related plant equipment such as valves, pumps, gear trains, speed reducers, and hydrants.
Repairs, maintains, and operates power operated machines such as a lift truck, backhoe, tractor mower, and/or bobcats.
Uses proper measurement tools to align rotating elements.
This associate is required to work with chemicals
May be required to work under emergency conditions.
Required to operate shop equipment.
Read and use blueprints, diagrams, and technical manuals to accomplish specific criteria on job assignments.
Required to operate shop equipment proficiently.
Performs welding (such as MIG, TIG, ARC, etc), grinding or cutting operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals and other materials as required.
Required to work with chemicals and maintain MSDS chemical safety standards.
Performs preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance activities on plant equipment and facilities and equipment which may include vibration analysis, oil analysis, HVAC, plumbing, lighting/electrical, office furnishings, grounds keeping, and custodial.
May be required to work during emergency conditions.
Regular attendance is required.
Job performance must conform to all CWS policies and procedures.
Specific knowledge of CWS Environmental Management System policy and procedures.

Occasionally positions self to use up to 50 lbs of force and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
Routinely ascend/descend ladders, stairs and ramps as high as thirteen (13) stories at Plum Island and three (3) stories at Hanahan. Ability to work at elevated height levels as needed to perform various task.
Constantly positions self to move, traverse for long distances as necessary to perform required work. Must be able to move about extensively to make inspections of treatment plant with varied topography and features. Ability to traverse on uneven ground while safely maneuvering equipment on wheels.
Ability to work independently of others.
Constantly works in internal / external environmental conditions. Subject to atmospheric conditions of one or more of the following that affect the respiratory system or skin: Fumes (paint), odors, dusts, gases, etc. Personnel Protective Equipment Required.
Worker may be required to wear a respirator and/or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Required to work with chemicals used in water and wastewater treatment processes.
Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion. On occasion this can require up to 50 lbs of force. Objects greater than 50 lbs require a two-person operation.
Must be able to maneuver large valve operator wheels and chain mechanisms.
Ability to operate and maintain motor vehicles.

Education and/or Experience
This is an entry position. Associate is required to successfully complete the Charleston Water Systems Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Program, which may include: formal classroom training with the local Technical College, classroom and correspondence courses at the work site, on-the-job training with a qualified trainer, independent learning, work assignments and skills demonstration tests. All training completions have effective deadlines which must be met. Failure to qualify on the training requirements may result in termination.
Prior work record indicating dependability and conscientiousness.

Performs a variety of tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, facilities, grounds, and equipment, including electrical and mechanical pumps, motors, chemical feed systems and instrumentation. Also performs the duties of the assistant plant operator position as required.
Key Accountabilities
Performs all functions of the position in a safe and conscientious manner, with constant regard for the safety of self, fellow employees, and the general public.
Operates, maintains, and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate operation of plant.
Feeds specified amounts of chemicals (e.g., chlorine, ammonia, corrosion inhibitor) into water supply or adjusts automatic devices to treat and disinfect water.
Documents chemical feed activities and system performance using written reports and automatic charts.
Records data such as residual chemical content, water pressure, power consumption, water output, and chemical consumption.
Monitors panel boards and adjusts controls to regulate flow rates, water storage, and distribution.
Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment using hand and power tools.
Collects water samples to determine basic water quality parameters.
Inspects, disassembles, and repairs damaged or malfunctioning control devices in water distribution systems.
Replaces defective parts or installs new control devices.
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical and control circuits using diagnostic equipment and hand tools.
Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunctions.

Repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
Operates and controls motor-driven pumps by turning valves, pulling levers, and flipping switches.
Reads and adjusts flow-meters and gauges to regulate equipment based on water consumption and demand.
Inspects equipment to detect malfunctions such as pump leaks or worn bearings.
Maintains facility buildings and grounds to appropriate appearance standards, including general housekeeping (sweeping, dusting, mopping).
Cleans basins and digs ditches manually or using a small backhoe.
Operates electric hoist.
Determines appropriate actions during emergencies (e.g., machine, equipment, or power failure).
Operates company vehicles and forklift as required.

Position Overview:
Performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on equipment, processing machinery as well as to the general facility. Reports to the Maintenance and Facilities Manager.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Performs preventive maintenance procedures on a variety of scrap processing equipment
Ensures proper preventive maintenance procedures are followed and executed while maintaining equipment and facilities in good working order
Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests
Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
Performs open jobs and uses resources in order to achieve cost effective results
Reviews records of scheduled maintenance activities and records work performed, and materials used
Facilitates a safe work environment by taking corrective action per monthly facility safety inspections
Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications and establishing personal networks
Performs work per company goals, manager's priorities and / or documented procedures
Must possess skills to repair the following brand of equipment: Toyota & Komatsu forklifts, Caterpillar skid loaders, Senne Bogen & Liebherr excavators, Harris Baler, belt & bucket conveyors, shears, and industrial metal processing equipment
Operates industrial powered lift truck as required
Must demonstrate competency in all aspects of the job and company objectives • Demonstrates understanding of company policies, rules and trainings

Desired Characteristics:
High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
3 or more years work experience in a similar role in a similar industry, with a strong mechanical background
Must possess basic reading and writing skills in English; ability to understand detailed instructions and repair manuals in English
Must work effectively independently, with others and as part of a team Maintenance Mechanic
Must be skilled at welding, electrical work, and hydraulics
Possessing skills and a basic understanding of the recycling industry and related equipment a plus
Must have technical understanding and attention to detail
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule and be available on call for urgent matters
Must own basic set of tools to be used on site
Must have the ability to perform the physical tasks of the job such as working in elevated and difficult positions as well as frequent bending, walking, standing, and lifting (50-75 lbs.)
Bilingual Spanish not required, but a plus
Ability to work in various environmental conditions such as extreme heat or cold, dusty, dirty and/or wet conditions
Candidate must pass a pre-employment physical, background and credit check
Able to fulfill flexible scheduling requirements as determined by the manager and / or business needs of the operation

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
* Performs semi-skilled installation, maintenance and repair of valves, meters, gauges, pumps, and associated equipment used in water distribution systems or wastewater collection systems using hand and power tools.
* Operates and performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment; i.e. trucks, digging, trenching equipment, and other equipment in accordance with company procedures, equipment and operating standards.
* Loads and unloads various equipment, chemicals and supplies at worksites and storage areas.
* Operates medium construction equipment under the supervision of a qualified operator.
* Adheres to all safety and security operating policies, procedures, practices and standards to ensure a safe working environment.
* Performs ground keeping and custodial work as assigned.
* Resolves routine problems and notifies management of issues outside scope of responsibility.
* Reads meters as needed.
* Updates and maintains documentation of work activities, including closing work orders as needed in the system.
* Assists with other tasks or projects as assigned
