Lab TechnicianAssistant 2 PSC Job Responsibilities:
Demonstrates understanding of and performs all procedures for obtaining, preparing, and packaging of specimens for transport; Evaluates specimen for acceptability per policy (volume, labeling, proper documentation for QA).
Provides correct containers to patients with preservatives, when needed, as well as instructions for return of samples; Verifies collection technique, total volume, and correct.
Maintains clean, orderly and well-stocked department and will notify appropriate personnel of shortages; Completes necessary documentation accurately each shift.
Participates in continuing educational requirements by attending meetings, responding to instructional e-mail, etc.; Attends 75% of all department meetings and reads minutes of 100% of staff meetings and communications; Completes Inova educational requirements and annual skills review by deadline.
Handles specimens collected by special procedure properly per facility policy (Irretrievable specimens, pathology specimens, 24-hour urine, cultures, chain of custody collections, Newborn Screens etc.).
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Education:
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Completion of Phlebotomy training required: completion certification from a Phlebotomy program or another Allied Health Training program, such as Medical Assistant, MLT or MT.
Experience: 1 year of experience in a Patient Service Center environment or at least 6 months in an Inova PSC. This requirement can also be met by successfully completing the Inova Phlebotomy School
Certification: Basic Life Support within three months of start

Adheres to CGMP for processing products, assessing product suitability, component creation, labeling and/or distribution of products; Evaluates specimens for acceptability per policy (i.e. volume, labeling, proper documentation for quality analysis).

Key Outcomes:
Provide customers with service and product troubleshooting for cytology and molecular products, including instruments, reagents, and software, via phone and email.
Document calls in the CRM system and escalate issues that require further investigation.
Authorize return of customer product for investigation.
Determine replacement of product as warranted.

Represent Technical Support as specialist for designated product(s).
Act as liaison to other departments within the division concerning issues related to specific product lines.
Serve on product development or support teams. Provide Technical Support team with troubleshooting training and informational updates.

Additional qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in biology, Cytotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field (required).
ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT), Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) certification or equivalent (desired).
Experience as a Cytology Prep Technician (desired).
Experience with cytology, RT PCR, molecular, or virology (desired).

Lab TechnicianAssistant 2 Job Responsibilities:
Ensures accurate specimen processing to maintain specimen integrity and verify product and/or test components when processing.
Manages specimen accessioning accurately and efficiently to provide quality specimens for Laboratory testing and performs proper specimen collection by confirming patient identification, collecting specimens in proper tubes, utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques and accurately labeling the specimens to ensure accurate patient results.
Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others to optimize job performance and foster working relationships.
Maintains a clean, orderly and well stocked department and notifies appropriate personnel of shortages.
Responsible for 24-hour urine container preparation/receipt (i.e. verifies collection technique, total volume and correct preservative as per facility policy).
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent
Experience: 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory environment or as a phlebotomist
