This individual will conduct inspections, review procedures, and support the Quality team in ensuring compliance with codes, customer specifications, and internal standards. Primary Responsibilities Perform inspections to determine if weldments meet acceptance criteria per applicable codes, standards, or customer specifications (ASME, AWS, API, or project-specific requirements). Conduct visual inspection of completed work and recommend repairs when necessary. Review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder qualification records, including bend testing. Read and interpret job specifications, shop drawings, and fabrication plans to ensure proper layout, fit up, and weldment quality. Prepare detailed, accurate inspection reports and maintain organized documentation and filing systems. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, production, and other employees. Provide guidance and mentorship to welding personnel and less-experienced inspectors. Collaborate with production, engineering, and management to resolve welding or quality-related issues. Assist with audits, continuous improvement initiatives, and other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications & Experience Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred; active AWS CWI strongly preferred. Hands-on welding experience and/or supervisory experience strongly preferred. Familiarity with ASME B31, ASME BPVC Section VIII, and Section IX is a plus (not required). Understanding of Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), filler metal selection, and welder qualification testing. Knowledge of welding techniques for carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloys, including FCAW, SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and SAW. Work will be assigned on a as needed basis and the contractor will be paid for the hours/days and other applicable cost items for the hours/days spent on the assigned work. The inspector will be required to sign an independent contractor agreement/sub-contractor agreement (1099) with SGS North America Inc. Scope of work: The scope of work includes ensuring that mechanical and welding processes comply with codes, standards, specifications, and project requirements by performing visual inspections and also to witness & verify results of FAT, Hydrotest non-destructive tests, etc. Monitoring welding parameters, and inspecting materials and equipment. Quality document reviews including WPS / PQR, assessment of quality, and issue reports or recommendations for corrective actions to ensure the safety and structural integrity of welded components. Verify that welders are qualified and that welding procedures and specifications (WPS) are followed correctly. Ensure all welding activities adhere to relevant industry codes (like ASME, AWS, API) and contractual requirements. Perform pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld inspections to identify defects and ensure quality. Conduct visual inspections of welded joints, checking dimensions, penetration, and bead formation. Witness Hydrotest, FAT, non-destructive testing (NDT) and interpret / verify results. Visual inspection on the quality of welding and mechanical projects. Ensure that materials, equipment, and safety regulations are followed. Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection results, including any issues found. Qualifications Must have API 510, AWS / CWI / CSWIP Minimum of five (5) years Fixed Equipment inspection experience. Two (2) of these years should be in Quality Assurance / vendor surveillance / shop inspections inspector. Must have a minimum of 5 years of Oil and Gas Experience. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of fixed equipment inspections. Must have welding inspections experience at manufacturer shops / facilities. Mechanical / welding inspection experience of Pressure vessels, Heat Exchangers, Tanks, Valves, etc.. would be an asset. Hours of work: Up to 8 or 10 hours a day, usually Monday to Friday subject to inspection scope requirement Work Schedule: Depending on the project requirement. This is not a permanent full time position. It is contract work and we contact you when we have a request for an inspection. If inspection site is beyond round trip 300 miles from Inspector place of residence then per diem could be applicable (client prior approval is required) Hourly rate: $42 to $48/hr. + $0.70 / km Must be eligible to work in the USA.
