Job Description
EXL Risk Control is looking for self-directed independent contractors who possess excellent
communication skills, computer proficiency, and a commitment to meeting client quality and
timeliness standards. You will work from your own home or office, and service onsite
survey/inspection assignments in the Detroit, MI area, and other locations within approximately 100 miles of Detroit.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for scheduling on-site surveys and providing risk control reports to
insurance industry clients. These reports contain information necessary to underwrite a
commercial insurance policy and may include recommendations to control and/or correct
potential loss producing conditions associated with that policy. You will be expected to
manage assignments you accept, successfully secure customer appointments within a
local territory and complete work assignments on time.
Our Risk Control Inspectors evaluate businesses behind the scenes to identify hazards and
improve safety, mitigating risks for our insurance company clients. The type of businesses
we survey are commercial operations, including retail, restaurants, hotels, apartments,
construction jobsites, churches, schools, etc. Most surveys are focused on assessing the
business for Property and General Liability coverage, but we also service other commercial
insurance lines of business including Workers Compensation, Auto/Fleet, Products Liability,
Inland Marine and Builders Risk.
Qualifications
Preferred experience in commercial insurance, real estate, inspection, construction, claim,
loss control, underwriting, and/or fire and safety experience is a plus, but all interested
candidates are encouraged to submit their qualifications. In lieu of experience, we can refer
you to a 15-hour online certification option to qualify you. Fees are negotiable depending on

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Conducts residential surveys at a minimum of 2,900 inspections annually at homes to identify and assess potential cross connections and hazards, such as those from garden hoses, irrigation systems, swimming pools, boilers, water softeners, toilet assemblies and water assisted sump pump systems, or any other systems connected to the water system.
2.Ensures proper installation, maintenance, of backflow prevention assemblies.
3. Issues permits for required devices and notify homeowners of any violations, including the necessary corrective actions to bring the property into compliance.
4.Develops and maintains accurate electronic records (database) of backflow prevention device locations, testing, repairs, and other pertinate information.
5.Conducts an annual review meeting to discuss overall program status and recommendations.
6.Provides up to four (4) ASSE approved hose bib vacuum breakers or anti-frost hose bib vacuum breakers, (i.e. combination) per facility as required, to place a facility into immediate compliance at the time of inspection.
7.Educates property owners, residents, and contractors on cross-connection control requirements.

9.Prepares and submits EGLE compliance reports to ensure adherence to state environmental and water quality regulations.

11.Coordinate with plumbing inspectors, contractors, and water utility personnel as needed.

Photograph damages and/or anomalies and upload images for record-keeping purposes.
Transmit information to original equipment manufacturers (OEM's), shipping companies, and third-party contractors for oversight of claims and damages.
Receive and process damage claims from OEM's; enter into the system, investigate VIN's history to validate claim, approve/deny.
Communicate with OEM's, local leadership, and the Claims and Inspections Manager to ensure all relevant information is available at any time to the appropriate parties.
Qualifications
High-School education, or equivalent.
2 years experience in the automotive industry preferred.
