Inspectors are the "eyes" for the insurance underwriter, who is generally in another area and confined to an office. Inspectors set their own hours and work schedules in which they organize to accommodate the needs of our clients. Insurance Inspector Independent Contractor Qualifications: Be an energetic individual capable of completing a high volume of insurance inspections. Be motivated, analytical, resourceful, decisive, and have good problem-solving skills. Have solid written, composition and verbal communication skills. Mortgage lenders require periodic updates on their properties and to do this they send out independent contractors. The purpose of the property inspection is: To verify property occupancy. To report on the general condition of the property using a mobile application. Most inspections are exterior only. About 10% require interior photos after the property has gone vacant. We contract with inspectors at a county level. This means that you would be responsible to complete all inspections in your county. In some cases, you will split the county with another inspector if there is enough volume for two inspectors. Responsibilities Most common type of inspection should only take 5-6 minutes. Complete the inspection within 4 days after it is assigned. Report general property conditions and make a determination of occupancy based on industry standards. The City of Portage is seeking a licensed Mechanical Inspector, or Mechanical Contractor with the ability to become registered as a Mechanical Inspector, for its Building Department Squad. As a Member you will: Inspect residential, commercial, and industrial mechanical systems and installations to ensure compliance with the State of Michigan Construction Codes and manufacturer installation specifications. Complete a variety of plan reviews for mechanical systems and installations. Communicate effectively when advising contractors, design professionals, and homeowners of pertinent mechanical codes to assist them with proper construction methods. Resolve issues and concerns pertaining to building projects and related activities while demonstrating prompt follow-through. Work in tandem with the building, plumbing, electrical inspectors, and the fire marshal. Provide oversight of contractors working in the jurisdiction to ensure possession of valid occupational licenses. Assist the Code Enforcement Division in working with citizens to review and provide information on alleged mechanical deficiencies and violations. Maintain State of Michigan licenses with ongoing continuing education. Work on-site when not on inspections. What We're Looking For: A licensed mechanical inspector or contractor with three of the 4 certifications (1, 2, 4, or 9). Must have four years of experience or combined training and experience in the field. An excellent communicator with strong customer service skills. Excellent ability to multitask.
