You will work from your own home or office, and service onsite survey/inspection assignments in the Portland, ME area, and other locations within approximately 40 miles of Portland. Responsibilities You will be responsible for scheduling on-site surveys and providing risk control reports to insurance industry clients. These reports contain information necessary to underwrite a commercial insurance policy and may include recommendations to control and/or correct potential loss producing conditions associated with that policy. You will be expected to manage assignments you accept, successfully secure customer appointments within a local territory and complete work assignments on time. Our Risk Control Inspectors evaluate businesses behind the scenes to identify hazards and improve safety, mitigating risks for our insurance company clients. The type of businesses we survey are commercial operations, including retail, restaurants, hotels, apartments, construction jobsites, churches, schools, etc. Most surveys are focused on assessing the business for Property and General Liability coverage, but we also service other commercial insurance lines of business including Workers Compensation, Auto/Fleet, Products Liability, Inland Marine and Builders Risk. Qualifications Preferred experience in commercial insurance, real estate, inspection, construction, claim, loss control, underwriting, and/or fire and safety experience is a plus, but all interested candidates are encouraged to submit their qualifications. In lieu of experience, we can refer you to a 15-hour online certification option to qualify you. Fees are negotiable depending on experience and the unique aspects of selected jobs. The prospective candidate(s) must be experienced in structural steel fabrication, applying AWS D1.5 (or AWS D1.1) inspection and testing code requirements including witnessing and reporting NDT performed. Responsibilities * Familiarity and experience with AASHTO/AWS D1.5 / AASHTO/AWS D1.1. * Perform third party DOT structural steel fabrication quality assurance inspection and reporting * Utilize applicable ASTM , AASHTO construction and project specific specifications * Read and interpret shop drawings, specifications and project special provisions to verify compliance to material quality * Ability to work closely with other fabrication, construction and quality personnel in a courteous and professional manner * Perform Visual (VT) Testing inspection per applicable code requirements. * Familiarity with inspecting and reporting high strength (Grade 325) bolts testing (rotational capacity/preinstallation verification) and reporting. * Familiarity with geometric in-process dimensional verification including lay-down and progressive assembly to ensure fitment during erection. * Proficiency in using the following: Laptop computer, cell (smart) phone, scanner and printer * Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Word, internet, report writing, adding photographs and other files within reports and as attachments. * Ability to develop and maintain client relations. We contract with inspectors at a county level. This means that you would be responsible to complete all inspections in your county. In some cases, you will split the county with another inspector if there is enough volume for two inspectors. Responsibilities Most common type of inspection should only take 5-6 minutes. Complete the inspection within 4 days after it is assigned. Report general property conditions and make a determination of occupancy based on industry standards.
