1966

Doctoral-level programs were introduced and six years later, in 1966, an 18-acre, four-building expansion was completed.

1970

William Hazell succeeded Doctor Van Houten as president of NJIT in 1970.

1979

The opening of NJIT’s first dormitory, Redwood Hall, in 1979 began a period of steady growth that continues today.

1988

The CBT Technology Institute (CBT Technology Institute) was founded in 1988 by Fernando Llerena and Gladys Llerena.

1989

In 1989, the College of Industrial Management was combined with the social sciences, humanities, and economics departments to form the Ivan Allen College of Management, Policy and International Affairs.

2000

CBT Technology Institute was recognized in 2000, by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce as one of the Top 100 Hispanic Businesses in Florida.

In 2000, Georgia Tech undertook a $180 million building project in Atlanta called Technology Square, a fusion of business, education, research, and retail space in Midtown Atlanta.

2002

In 2002 CBT Technology Institute began offering associate degree programs and changed accreditation to ACICS (Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools) in order to pursue higher education degrees.

2006

On November 24, 2006, Scheller dedicated the 2,000-square-foot Ferris-Goldsmith Trading Floor.

2009

On November 6, 2009, the College of Management received an anonymous gift of $25 million.

2010

In 2010, CBT will open a West Kendall branch.

2012

Fundraising for the challenge concluded on June 30, 2012.

In June 2012, the College announced a second gift of an additional $25 million from Mr.

2013

Under the leadership of Joel S. Bloom, NJIT completed the first phase of the Gateway Project in 2013, including the creation of Warren Street Village, a three-acre, a mixed-use residential housing complex that added 600 beds to NJIT’s existing inventory of residential housing.

2014

A new nonprofit corporate entity, New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), was established in 2014 to work directly with business, industry, and government for economic development.

2017

A renovated Makerspace where students and businesses can prototype innovative ideas officially opened in December 2017.

As of 2017, NJIT had 220 unexpired United States patents, more than 105 pending United States non-provisional patent applications.
