Responsibilities **Noblis is seeking a post-doctoral candidate with a strong background in Quantum Computing in Reston, VA** The successful candidate will work with Noblis subject matter experts and scientists to propose, develop and lead quantum computing oriented experiments and research across multiple domain areas. The newly established National Science Foundation (NSF)-Simons CosmicAI Institute seeks to hire a postdoctoral fellow to help initiate a new comprehensive research program to foster foundational advancements in AI through the analysis and processing of astronomical data at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), located on the grounds of the University of Virginia (UVA) in Charlottesville, Virginia. Other NRAO duty stations may be considered if justified. This work will be carried out in close collaboration with CosmicAI team members at the University of Utah. The NSF-Simons AI Institute for Cosmic Origins (CosmicAI) aims to grow transformative AI advances with the overarching goal to increase the accessibility of astronomy data and knowledge for researchers, students, and the public. CosmicAI leverages partnerships between academia [UT Austin, Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), U. of Virginia, U. of Utah, UCLA), national facilities (NRAO and NSF NOIRLab), nonprofits, and industry to develop capabilities that enable astronomical researchers to conceptualize, define, and execute research projects via trustworthy, efficient, robust, and explainable AI methods. By building next-generation AI tools, the Institute aims to accelerate discoveries related to the most basic human question: Where do we come from? The NRAO is a research and development organization that plays a vital role in the study of the universe. The Observatory operates a variety of radio telescopes that span the globe, including the Very Large Array (VLA) in New Mexico, the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) across North America, and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile. These telescopes are among the most advanced in the world, allowing astronomers to explore the universe in unprecedented detail. Data volumes for interferometric facilities will increase by over two orders of magnitude in the coming decade with instruments such as the Wideband Sensitivity Upgrade (WSU) on Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), and the next generation Very Large Array (ng VLA). CosmicAI research efforts at the NRAO will be focused on expediting the calibration, imaging, and analysis of this high-dimensional data. Although stationed at the NRAO, the CosmicAI fellow will have full access to Institute facilities and equipment (e.g., world-class computational resources at TACC, including Vista, a newly instantiated 600 GPU node cluster) and routinely collaborate with Institute members across all sites to facilitate the development of cutting-edge AI tools and methodologies. The CosmicAI fellow at the NRAO will be expected to spend 50% of their time on Observable Universe Working Group research efforts, with the remaining 50% available for independent research; ideally there will be substantial overlap between the two. The CosmicAI Fellowship appointment will be awarded initially for a two-year period with an expectation of a third year. Institute directed research will focus on two main areas: Anomaly Detection for Data Calibration Developing a methodology and toolset to distinguish good calibrations from problematic calibrations that currently require human evaluation to expedite high-volume, high-throughput calibration and imaging. Hyperspectral Cube Image Segmentation: Developing robust, automated data segmentation for spatio-kinematic regions of interest in hyperspectral image cubes and leveraging to improve the efficiency of creating compact science-ready data products in imaging pipelines. As a CosmicAI fellow at NRAO you will play a leading role in this groundbreaking research, contributing to either or both areas depending on your interest and expertise. The Opportunity The Biohub is seeking outstanding early-career scientists to join and participate in the launch of the Proteoform Spatial Biology Group by continuing their training as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Proteomics. The Proteoform Spatial Biology Group aims to uncover the spatiotemporal regulation of proteins and their unique molecular forms, proteoforms, in inflammation and autoimmunity. For this position, the ideal candidate is expected to have experience in working with mass spectrometry-based proteomics, phosphoproteomics, and/or interactomics. What You'll Do * Develop and apply large-scale phosphoproteomic workflows using a state-of-the-art mass spectrometer * Optimize sample preparation and enrichment strategies * Maintain and troubleshoot advanced LC-MS instrumentation * Analyze and interpret mass spectrometry datasets, contributing to collaborative datasets, manuscripts, and presentations * Present findings internally and externally; co-author publications What You'll Bring Essential - * PhD in proteomics, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or related field * Experience with bottom-up phosphoproteomics, including enrichment and LC-MS/MS * Strong hands-on experience with advanced mass spectrometry platforms (preferably Bruker tims TOF, Thermo Orbitrap, or equivalent, i.e., >3 yrs experience) * Proficiency in proteomics data analysis pipelines (e.g., MaxQuant, DIA-NN, FragPipe) * Ability to work both collaboratively and independently to plan, execute, and troubleshoot complex experiments Nice to have - * Experience with top-down proteomics or intact proteoform analysis * Experience with using size exclusion chromatography for inferring protein-protein interactions * Background in immune cell biology and signaling pathways * Skills in R, Python, or other computational frameworks for large-scale omics analysis * Experience in protein engineering or site-directed mutagenesis * Experience with imaging-based proteomics and/or laser capture microdissection * Experience with single-cell nucleic acid sequencing-based assays Compensation The Chicago, IL base pay range for a new hire in this role is $84,150.00. For this position, we are looking for candidates with a focus on developing animal models of inflammation, with an emphasis on neural, periodontal, and musculoskeletal tissues. The ideal candidate will have experience in: * Developing and characterizing animal models of acute and chronic inflammation, especially those affecting neural, periodontal and musculoskeletal systems * Applying molecular biology techniques to analyze, visualize, and track inflammatory processes * Working in cross-disciplinary teams and contributing to the development of innovative biological measurement tools Postdoctoral Fellows at Biohub are embedded in generously funded, interdisciplinary teams and are expected to contribute hands-on to research and technology development. For this particular position, the ideal candidate is expected to have experience in computational structural biology, with a focus on 3D molecular modeling, protein-ligand interactions, and the application of machine learning techniques to predict and analyze molecular structures. The candidate should have a strong quantitative background in computer science, computational chemistry, or biophysics, with demonstrated applying machine learning techniques to structural biology problems. This role will be based out of the Chicago location. What You'll Do * Develop and apply state-of-the-art AI/ML method to model biological sequences and structures. * Design and implement cutting-edge computational methods for modeling 3D structures of Immune protein complexes. * In depth analysis of computational 3D biomolecular models. * Benchmarking structure and sequence based predictive model for downstream tasks. * Coordinate with our lab scientists to design and optimize design and validation strategies. * Contribute to scientific publications and presentations at conferences. What You'll Bring Essential - * PhD in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Chemistry or a related quantitative field. * 2 years in applying deep learning to model biological sequences and structures. * Strong knowledge of molecular and protein modeling tools (e.g. AlphaFold, Boltz). * Strong knowledge of biological sequence foundation models (e.g., ESM2, EVO). * Proficiency in high performance computing systems for large-scale modeling and simulation. * Experience with PyMol or other molecular visualization software. * History of writing clean, well-documented, and reproducible code. * Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
