QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience working with curriculum development, differentiation and instruction, preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.
Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services and compliance, particularly for students with learning disabilities, emotional disturbance and/or challenging behaviors.
Prior experience and highly knowledgeable in working with students with individualized education plans (IEP's).
Proven success in developing and implementing effective education plans for at-risk students with diverse needs.

Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.

Department: Temp Center Salary/Grade: TMP/01 Residential Teaching Assistant CTD Summer Academic Camp at Northwestern University Residential Teaching Assistants (RTAs) supervise and support one group of 10-14 residents in the residence hall. Walk around the classroom and monitor the student's progress. Work with students in small groups. The expectation is that paraprofessionals are on their feet 50% or more of the time for the duration of the 48-minute period.
Given the need, paraprofessionals in this program are assigned to escorts for students in need of supervision during transitions. Transitions consist of walking from one class to the next class within the building. After the paraprofessional escorts the student, they are expected to go to the assignment they are scheduled to support the class.
Paraprofessionals in this program may be given the dedicated assignment of being a 1:1 aide. In this role, the expectation is that they accompany the students each period as the student transitions from class to class. The expectation is that they accompany the student to each class and remain with the student. Once in the classroom, the paraprofessional is expected to work directly with the student 1:1 and in small groups. Paraprofessionals are expected to be on their feet 50% or more of the class period.
Program: Low Incidence- Intellectual Disabilities
Students in this program require 1: 1 supervision at all times. Due to their cognitive functioning and physical challenges, students in this program may require being lifted on and off the toilet, feeding, and grooming. Staff members in this program maintain CPI training due to the physical interactions that take place for students related to the student's disability. This program requires staff members to be trained in physical management to ensure safety in a time of crisis.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:Provide assistance in classrooms and kitchen as outlined in the Daily Schedule
Remain flexible in classroom assignments in order to maintain the safety of all students
Assist staff with both long and short range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy.
Provide breaks and lunches for classroom teachers
Assist in all areas of daily center activities, including meal preparation and serving Meeting the individual needs of every child by interacting with them to encourage and support play, exploration, and learning Collaborating with families to create inclusive and culturally relevant classroom and curriculum Providing a fun, welcoming, warm and safe classroom environment Professional daily interactions and active communication with children, co-workers, and parents.Meeting and following requirements of all licensing agencies
Must meet all Open Space Early Learning Center and local, state, or national basic health requirements as well as other requirements, including but not limited to:
American Heart Association or Red Cross CPR & First Aid training
New Illinois Food Handler
Current Gateways Membership
Inccrra Training: Sudden Infant Death
Inccrra Training: Shaken Baby Syndrome
Inccrra Training: Trauma Informed Practice
Mandated Reporter Training
Physical within last 6 months
Proof of TB Test, TDAP, and 2 Doses of MMR and immunization
Proof of a completed primary series of Covid-19 vaccination
3 letters of recommendation
Proof of Education -- Official Transcripts or HS Diploma
Personnel will have a fingerprinting and/or criminal investigation report completed Compensation: $17.00 per hour

What This Job Looks Like:
Engage - Care for children between ages six weeks and 13 years (based on your experience)
