ACE is an academic after-school program serving at-risk K-8 grade students with diverse academic needs. This includes developing programs to help students grow in all areas. Mission Statement: At Cedars International Academy, the 21st Century ACE Program inspires 21st-century students in a safe and supportive expanded learning environment through school-day-aligned academics, enrichment opportunities, and family engagement. You must be able to work all required hours/days and attend all required trainings for this position. Required hours: Cedars International Academy: Monday - Thursday, 4 pm-5 pm. Required Training Days: TBD ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of the Site Coordinator, After-School Teachers are responsible for implementing grade-appropriate lesson plans for ACE students. Lesson plans must be engaging and meet the grant requirements. Teachers are also responsible for classroom and time management to ensure that students are progressing throughout the school year. Teachers will need to provide accurate assessments to show student progress bi-weekly. Teachers are also responsible for the duties as assigned by the Site coordinator as ACE grows. Academic Activities: Make fun and engaging lesson plans based on the school day curriculum to improve students' grades. Teachers will periodically lead small group tutorials in reading, writing, and math to focus on students who may be falling behind. Homework Help: Create a quiet, productive environment for students to complete homework and independent reading. Assist students as needed with academics and any technological challenges that may arise. Teacher Activities: Ratios vary. Design lesson plans based on student interest and school day needs. Examples include: Mario-themed math, reading outside, service learning pro, and STEM activities. Teachers, on their own, may be responsible for leading a group of no more than 20 students. The teacher may be assisted by another staff member as well. This will allow the teacher to support more students with stronger small group interactions. Other Job Requirements: Interact daily with students, Enrichment counselors, parents, co-workers, and supervisors in a professional and friendly manner. Participate in mandatory staff meetings and full-day training as required. Spend up to 2 additional hours per week preparing lesson plans and materials as required. Create a safe learning environment for students. Provide supervision for all students in the given activity, including behavior management best practices that align with the school day. Assist with snack counting, inventory, and the daily distribution process. Assist in student arrival, transition, and departure procedures daily. Assist in site clean-up daily. Monitor restroom breaks as needed by students. Turn in time sheets by the required deadlines. Submit lesson plans a week before your teaching day in order to teach. Upload lesson plans to the shared ACE folder a week before teaching. Ensure all students in your class are being engaged in the lesson. Report behaviors and any incidents as they occur to the Site Director and ACE Administrative Assistant. Be prepared to implement activities before students arrive in your classroom. Qualifications: College Diploma required. Teaching Certificate preferred. Education majors preferred. Experience working with school-age youth. Experience planning lesson plans and leading classes preferred. Must complete criminal background check and SBEC fingerprinting requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Ensure that all tax returns prepared at the VITA site are submitted to the IRS for processing in a very timely manner. * Answer questions from volunteers and taxpayers in a courteous and helpful manner. * Ensure Volunteer Standards of Conduct are followed by all volunteers. * Ensure Quality Site Requirements are followed by all volunteers. * Provide site and volunteer data to VITA program administrators. This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Other duties may be assigned. Minimum Requirements * Education - High School Diploma or GED * Experience - No experience required. * May not be currently enrolled undergraduate student at Texas A&M International University. Licensing/Professional Certification * Current year's Site coordinator certification be obtain within 30 days of hire. * Current year's Advanced tax law certification be obtain within 30 days of hire.
