Responsibilities: The Special Education Teacher provides differential instruction to students with a primary disability of Emotional Disturbance and Autism. Instruction is individual and in small groups of 6-7 students. The Teacher facilitates instructional activities coordinating with Residential and Therapy staff members. Teachers ensure that each student makes appropriate progress on IEP goals, and that accommodations and modifications are implemented. Teachers also establish procedures that result in a consistently safe and nurturing environment for students and staff.
Duties:
* Provide direct instruction in vocational education, character development, career development, communication skills, and recreation/leisure skills.
* Knowledge of special education laws and procedures.
* Develop legally defensible IEPs including individual goals aligned to Common Core Standards to provide educational benefit to the students.
* Implement student's IEPs as written in accordance to the law for the purpose of providing education benefit to students.
* Assist students to develop a plan to graduate from high school with a diploma or certificate of completion.
* Monitor students' progress utilizing data that reflects student performance, behavior and to adjust instruction as needed based on analysis of the data.
* Provide students with specialized instruction to meet their unique needs. Utilize a wide variety of co-curricular resources to motivate students.
* Collaborate with other teachers, therapist and residential staff and others to implement a high-quality individualized program.
* Provide timely feedback to students, parents, staff and supportive agencies based on data to coordinate services.
* Train and provide work direction to guide assigned support staff members.
* Perform other duties as assigned for the purpose of facilitating student learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
Mild to Moderate Special Education Credential, California (or eligibility for an Intern Program)
Valid California Driver's License
Department of Justice and FBI Fingerprint Response
Meet all standards of employment in childcare established by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing.
