This position is full time, 7.5 hours per day (8 am - 4 pm), Monday through Friday, during the school year. See attached work calendar for exact work dates. This position comes with paid time off and is benefit eligible.
Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide a quiet organized atmosphere and supervise students assigned. Provide direction, assistance, and instruction as needed to create a positive support system for students. . Maintain a class or area that students feel comfortable attending and aren't hesitant to seek, ask for, and obtain help whether to make up a test, do homework, or collaborate with students, contact a Principal, guidance staff, teacher, or other staff members for other problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervises students, in an alternative learning or study hall environment in both large group and small group settings before, during and after school.
Provides assistance to students regarding classroom assignments, tutors students, and proctors assessments; assists students in operating computer and media equipment.
Motivates and encourages students in positive ways to successfully complete assigned school work.
Makes a personal connection with students demonstrating that they are caring adults who will listen and facilitate other internal and external interventions as needed.
Establish an open door policy with students for any questions concerns or issues they may be experiencing.
Provides consistency for students as a trusted adult doing daily check-in and check-out taking the time to listen and make positive connections with students.
Model Positive Behavior Instructional Support (PBIS) with students and participates in PBIS planning teams as requested.
Maintains area to ensure security, functionality and cleanliness in the assigned space. Maintains accurate attendance, behavior, and progress records and reports.
Contacts parents regarding unexcused absences
Coordinates daily classroom assignments with teaching staff; collects completed work and returns it to teachers in a timely manner
Processes student Academic Progress Reports as requested
Coordinates the administration of the alternative learning and study hall environment; develops forms, seating charts, attendance cards, and files as required
Drafts letters, memos, and other correspondence as required to parents, staff, and co-workers.
Maintains classroom reading and textbook library; acquires and maintains classroom instructional materials
Fills in for the office staff and performs secretarial duties as requested
Other activities as assigned
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
High school graduate with five to eleven months teaching assistant experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must meet the following NCLB standards for this position. (1) Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education, (2) obtained an associate's degree (or higher) or (3) be able to demonstrate through a formal assessment, the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics. Must be willing to attend the following workshops: Blood Bourne Pathogens, cultural diversity, harassment, bullying, emergency code response. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Demonstrates familiarity with curriculum by using resources to implement students' program under the direction and training of the classroom teacher and the Education/Learning Coordinator.
Engages students in active learning.
Provides constructive criticism and feedback for staff working within the classroom setting and ensures that Education Department policies are withheld.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 21 years old
Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
At least one year of experience working with special needs students preferred
Is eligible for Instructional Aide license through the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction

MHCS desires those who feel called to work with students with special needsand in a ministry. A Christ-centered special needs paraprofessional is needed to fulfill this role in our school ministry. The ideal candidate will prayerfully help students learn attitudes and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible Christians to the praise and glory of God, focusing on supporting students with special needs. This role involves working alongside the student services team and possibly assigned teachers. All special needs paraprofessionals are expected to complete the required training and coursework that MHCS provides. We also desire that our special needs paraprofessionals reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in every class and every activity.
