Job Title: Instructional Aide
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The instructional aide provides support for students to enable access to curriculum and academic instruction throughout the school day. The instructional aide role may work primarily with special education students in a variety of ways including in a self-contained classroom, as a one-to-one support, or as needed by the school and students. Additionally, an instructional aide may also serve in the in-school suspension room, providing support to students who need a behavioral reset as they access the curriculum.
*This particular instructional aide role requires behavioral management support including but not limited to following a behavior plan, documenting student behaviors, and communicating with teachers/administrators/guardians/wrap-around team members.
ESSENTIAL JOB EXPECTATIONS
Discuss classroom learning activities with teacher/specialist to coordinate instructional efforts and to implement instructional programs.
Provide assistance to students as required via IEP, 504, behavior plan or wrap-around team.
Review and follow behavioral plans, as appropriate, and document progress or deficits in meeting goals.
As needed may support students by attending classes with them, providing toiletry support if needed, implementing accommodations as determined by their wrap-around team, behavioral interventions as needed
Operate a variety of office machines and/or instructional equipment such as, copy machine, computer, laminator, telephone, etc.
Perform a variety of classroom associated clerical work, such as typing, sorting, filing, keeping accurate records, setting up and maintaining file folders, recording attendance, completing forms and applications, measuring, cutting and copying
Prepare various teaching aids and materials such as charts, graphs, and other related items using such methods as typing, copying, collating, stapling and other laminating
*In School Suspension - supporting students in completing their assignments and the other is engaging in socio-emotional conversations and practices designed to restore the environment
May call parents to arrange appointments, to provide approved information about school or student
Understand and carry out oral and written instruction
Learn to tutor students in various subject matters and to work with students with and/or without disabilities
Supporting students in curriculum across high school content
Use de-escalation strategies as necessary with students in need of a reset opportunity
Providing a reset space
Motivate and encourage positive learning patterns and behavior to students with disabilities and special learning needs
Keep accurate records
Demonstrate understanding and patience toward students with disabilities
Demonstrate confidence, tact and sound judgment
Demonstrate adaptability to changing circumstances and priorities within the learning environment

Qualifications
Consistent with ESEA and other related legislation, candidates for this classification must meet the following standards:
Possess a high school diploma (or equivalent) AND one of the following:
* Completion of at least two years of college (48 units), OR
* Attainment of an AA (or higher) degree
IOTA strongly prefers candidates who have one or more of the following:
Six months experience working with middle school-aged or high school-aged adolescents/children in a structured environment
Any other combination of training an experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge or abilities may be considered, however, experience cannot substitute for the required minimum education and a willingness to work collaboratively as an educational team member

Additional Information
The wage for this position will be $17-$19 per hour. Please note that candidates who are new to their role or newly promoted can expect offers between the minimum and the mid-point of the range.
