Encouraging and monitoring the progress of individual students in accordance with specific timelines and communicating with the classroom teacher regarding overall progress and/or interventions needed.
Completing accurate and timely documentation on student's behavior as outlined by school procedures; reporting observations to relevant staff and making recommendations based on observations.
Assisting in preparation of other behavioral reports and daily activities log as required.
Maintaining confidentiality of student information and records at all times.
Participate in school meetings, student/parent meetings and individual student advisory meetings as requested and required.
Responding constructively to formal and informal feedback.
Performing other duties as assigned.
This position operates with oversight and guidance from the classroom teacher and program director in carrying out the essential duties and responsibilities to provide support to assigned students and Spectrum program site.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent w/ passage of basic skills test.
Associate degree or higher in education or a closely related field of study preferred.
Hold currently or have the ability to obtain a state driver's license.
Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a paraprofessional, paraeducator, teaching assistant or similar credential preferred.
Prior experience working with children, preferably in a special education program setting.
Highly skilled in working with children with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities and/or challenging behaviors.
Comfortable driving and/or riding in a company van with students before and/or after school.
Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency and make independent decisions.
Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals.
Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.
Well-versed in the use of relevant technology including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.

POSITION SUMMARY

Incumbents in this class are primarily responsible for performing Program Aid duties in the Special Needs Program. This class can be distinguished from the class of Special Needs Program Instructor as this class does not have Program Instructor responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Incumbents may not perform all duties. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Aid in delivery of educational instruction designed by Special Needs Program Instructors to help participants meet educational, academic, life skill, behavioral, physical, social and emotional goals
Ability to lead small groups of special needs participants in classroom or community-based setting
Oversee and ensure safety of participants during program hours
Respect and encourage person centered thinking
Give personal assistance to participants as needed, may include, dress, cleaning, self-care and toileting
Gather and maintain information for Individual Service Plans
Monitor activities in facility, aid and ensure compliance with District regulations, maintain facility security, and report any facility issues related to safety
May open, secure facility before and after program use; prepare facility and set up furniture and or equipment for scheduled activities/events
Aid with administrative duties related to photocopying, gathering supplies and set up of program supplies
Aid in retail duties in on site Thrift Store, such as handling and organizing merchandise, selling items, and providing excellent customer service
Aid in gardening duties, such as watering, planting and picking fruits and vegetables for lunch program
Assist special needs participants in classroom settings such as, but not limited to: Art, Computer Education, Cooking, Gardening, Functional Math, Health and Fitness, Music and Literacy Classes
Aid in getting participants on and off daily transportation/ bus services
Assists in the lunch program, overseeing participants during lunch
Assist in the implementation of ongoing programs, classes and special events
Maintains good public relations
Participates in training sessions and regular staff meetings
May provide input regarding program planning
At all times, demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors, volunteers, participants and the public
Performs other duties as assigned
WORK ENVIRONMENT

San Francisco Film School (SFFS) is looking for qualified Teaching Assistants (TAs) to support filmmaking and creative media courses during the Spring 2026 semester and beyond. This role is ideal for early-career professionals or practitioners interested in teaching, mentoring students, and supporting hands-on, production-based learning environments.
Position Summary
Teaching Assistantsassist students and instructors in hybrid courses that combine online learning with on-campus, hands-on production activities. TAs play an essential role in facilitating learning, offering technical and academic support, and ensuring smooth course operations. This is a part-time, non-faculty instructional support position.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Facilitate small-group discussions, workshops, or lab activities during scheduled class sessions.
Provide technical assistance with filmmaking equipment, software, and course materials.
Offer tutoring or student support during designated office hours or scheduled support times.
Assist with administrative and instructional tasks, including distributing materials and preparing classrooms or production spaces.
Provide feedback on draft assignments or practice exercises.
Support student productions on campus as needed.
Coordinate with instructors and school administration regarding attendance tracking and basic grading support.
Attend required meetings, including faculty or instructional support meetings.
Schedule and modality expectations
TAs must be available for both online and on-campus classes, depending on course needs.
On-campus presence is required for classes and productions scheduled at the San Francisco campus.
Weekly hours vary by course, but each requires a minimum commitment of 6 hours per week.
Minimum qualifications
Professional experience in filmmaking or a closely related creative media field.
Strong working knowledge of professional filmmaking workflows, tools, and equipment.
Ability to support students in a collaborative, production-focused learning environment.
Reliable communication skills and professional conduct when working with students, faculty, and staff.
Preferred qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Film, Filmmaking, Creative Media, or a closely related field.
Prior teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or instructional support experience.
Demonstrated ability to explain technical concepts clearly to students with varying levels of experience.
A portfolio or reel demonstrating professional-quality work.
