The role and assignments of a paraprofessional are not defined by a particular student, setting or program but rather by students' needs as determined by the IEP. BGCNIC serves 3,000 children ages five to 18 at 25 sites across north central Indiana through summer and before and after-care programming, with a strong focus on social and emotional learning, college and workforce readiness, and academic enrichment to ensure every child has a chance to meet his or her potential. The EWB team within BGCNIC is committed to best-practice prevention and early intervention services to all club members and staff with a focus on assessment and research to drive impact. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Major responsibilities include: Classroom Support: Assist the classroom teacher with instructional activities and classroom management. Help prepare instructional materials and resources for lessons. Provide one-on-one or small group support to students who need extra help. Student Assistance: Assist students with special needs, following individualized education plans (IEPs). Monitor and support students in various settings, including the classroom, lunchroom, and playground. Help students with daily activities, such as eating, using the restroom, and transitioning between activities. Clerical Duties: Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior.     Work Schedule: School year only; 5.75 hours per day Reports to: Building Principal, unless otherwise noted General Purpose The Paraprofessional is to assist the teacher with the implementation of Individual Education Programs of students identified with disabilities. It is the responsibility of the teacher to provide direct instruction to the students, providing the Paraprofessional guidance in a variety of areas. The role of the Paraprofessional is to work in a supportive capacity as part of a team to meet the needs of each student. Teacher assistance may be provided across multiple settings such as special education classrooms, general education classrooms, and other designated learning environments within the school or community. In addition, Paraprofessionals assist with classroom procedures that may include but are not limited to; educational support, mobility support, vocational support, behavior support, assistance with functional skills, and physical or occupational therapy support.
