What a day in the life of a Teacher looks like:

What you bring to the table:
Minimum of a bachelors degree
At least 21 years old
A valid Wisconsin teaching certificate.
Experience working with students who are historically disadvantaged, or have emotional or behavioral challenges (EBD), with 2-3 years of successful classroom management.
Know your way around a computer and MS Office
Possess patience with a positive, confident approach, understanding & trauma-focused care, especially when things get rough

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Facilitates student accommodations on assignments and tests.
Provides student supervision across all educational environments.
Must be able to take and follow through with directives and instructions consistently from special education contact teacher, as well as be able to independently make decisions and solve problems to meet the needs of students.
Prepares and maintains detailed notes, plans and materials for substitutes when absent.
Provides basic first aid to students; maintains injury/attendant care logs and participates in and keeps current certification in appropriate training sessions, such as bloodborne pathogens, medication administrations, CPR, first aid, non-violent crisis intervention, tube feeding, transfers and lifts for students with physical limitations, and others as required for specific assigned position.
Provides self-care assistance for students, including but not limited to feeding, diapering and toileting, etc. May come in contact with bodily fluids.
Performs or assists with health procedures such as: catheterization, tube feedings, diaper changes, glucose monitoring as assigned after training completed.
Follows all relevant district policies and procedures including District Technology Use Policy throughout work day.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
High school graduate with technical training in special education, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities;
DPI certification provided by employee
CPR, non-violent crisis intervention, and first aid certification.
Must meet the following NCLB standards for this position: (1) Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education, (2) obtained an associate's degree (or higher) or (3) be able to demonstrate through a formal assessment, the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics.
Must possess a valid driver's license.

QUALIFICATIONS YOU'LL NEED
Basic Requirements (All Positions)
Age: Minimum 18 years old
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: Working with children ages 3-5, preferably in licensed childcare setting
Certifications: Adult, Child, and Infant CPR within 6 months; basic first aid knowledge
Professional Competencies: Excellent communication skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, flexibility for varying schedules
Language: Bilingual in Hmong and/or Spanish preferred
Additional: Experience with low-income, multicultural families preferred
Classroom Aide I Requirements
Completion of Intro to Child Care Profession (or equivalent ECE course) required by Wisconsin licensing OR must complete within 6 months
Classroom Aide II Requirements
Completion of Intro to Child Care Profession (or equivalent ECE course)
Documentation of enrollment and completion of minimum one course toward Preschool Credential OR CDA
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Classroom Aide, you'll partner with the Classroom Teacher to:
Assist in developing and implementing activities that promote children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development
Support programming for children ages 3-5 in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards
Ensure compliance with Wisconsin Child Care Licensing, City of Madison Accreditation, and Wisconsin Young Star standards
Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and community members
Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
Support multicultural and multilingual learning experiences
Assist with daily classroom routines and activities
Work collaboratively under the direction of the Classroom Teacher

As a paraprofessional, you will:
+ Provide academic, behavioral, and emotional support to students with diverse learning needs

+ Collaborate with special education teachers, therapists, and general education staff
+ Assist with classroom management, instructional activities, and student engagement
+ Support students in both special education and inclusive classroom environments

+ Associate's degree or high school diploma with successful completion of the Master Teacher Exam

+ Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
