We are seeking an Instructional Designer I to support training initiatives across multiple business units. This role involves planning, designing, and developing instructional content for classroom, virtual, and e-learning environments. You will create engaging courses, perform needs assessments, evaluate learning effectiveness, and collaborate with trainers and subject matter experts. This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence 3 days per week.
Multiple work samples and/or a portfolio is required with each submission.
At least three years of experience in training/instruction.

OVERVIEW
• Plan and manage instructional design projects and initiatives
• Develop instructional courses tailored to meet the desired learning outcomes and needs of the learners using tools such as the Articulate Suite, Adobe Express, Camtasia, and Adobe Illustrator
• Utilize a variety of techniques to define and sequence instructional content

What You'll Be Up To:
Leads and mentors a team of Senior Learning Specialists in designing, developing, and facilitating high-impact learning experiences across ship and shore.
Designs learning programs that integrate AI-assisted authoring tools, data insights, and digital innovation to enhance efficiency, creativity, and learner engagement.
Develops and maintains instructional design standards, templates, and creative frameworks that ensure quality, accessibility, and alignment with the Virgin Voyages learning experience.
Partners cross-functionally with Deployment Managers, SMEs, and business stakeholders to identify needs and deliver learning solutions that improve Crew capability and performance.
Oversees the end-to-end instructional design process, from needs analysis and storyboarding to production, testing, and post-launch evaluation.
Continuously explores and implements innovative learning technologies (e.g., adaptive learning, simulations, microlearning, AI-driven content personalization) to modernize the Crew learning journey.
Leads content review cycles to ensure learning materials remain accurate, relevant, and performance-driven, with a focus on continuous improvement and data-backed impact.
Collaborates with the Systems Administrator and analytics partners to leverage LMS data, AI insights, and learner feedback to enhance design strategy and program effectiveness.
Serves as a subject matter expert and thought leader in instructional design, digital learning, and emerging technologies-driving innovation, experimentation, and best-practice adoption across Learn & Grow.
SuperPowers Required:
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Learning & Development, Education, or a related field
5+ years of instructional design experience, including at least 2 years leading or mentoring other designers.
Proven ability to design and deliver engaging digital, facilitator-led, and blended learning solutions.
Proficiency with Articulate 360 (Rise, Storyline), learning management systems (LMS), and AI-enabled learning tools or emerging design technologies.
Strong understanding of adult learning theory, instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, SAM), and facilitation best practices.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple business areas.

The Department of Education in the College of Social Science, Mathematics & Education at The University of Tampa invites applications for part-time instructors in Instructional Design and Technology. The M.S. in Instructional Design and Technology addresses a growing field in learning and human performance, and provides a multidisciplinary area of study that draws students from many disciplines and backgrounds. Instructional designers understand and utilize technologies as both product (e.g., Web-based courses) and process (e.g., iterative and formative approaches to learner assessment). Given the diverse career tracks in instructional design, this program offers students the flexibility to customize their course of study based on individual goals and interests. Graduates of the program are well prepared to practice their unique, multidisciplinary profession in a variety of settings, including business, K-12 schools, higher education, government and military, or to pursue doctoral studies.
The main responsibility is to teach some core and electives graduate-level courses in the Instructional Design & Technology program.
