Job Details Oglethorpe University - Atlanta, GA Full-Time Faculty Doctoral EducationDescription Oglethorpe University invites applications for a Lecturer in Biology with expertise in Ecology beginning fall 2025. The chosen candidate will teach lecture and lab courses across the Biology curriculum, including introductory courses and ecology electives, and in the Core Program. The forensic pathology course is designed to introduce students to the key aspects involved in determining the cause of a victim's fatality or injury. It covers the procedures necessary to identify the victim, as well as to assess the mechanism and manner of fatality, including natural causes, accidents, suicides, and homicides. HOW A LEAD FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT: Lead Firearms Instructors (LFIs) are the first point of contact at the training venue for Federal Flight Deck Officers (FFDO) and is the on-site training manager for the program. LFIs conduct all classroom instruction; delivering the approved TSA training and safety brief; introducing and describing new equipment; and ensuring all students understand and sign the safety briefing. The LFI ensures a minimum number of SFIs are present to maintain an instructor/student ratio of 1:6 for each training session. The LFI must ensure a sufficient inventory of training supplies is on-hand at the training venue to support monthly requalification sessions. The LFI is expected to maintain positive control of the training environment from the moment students arrive at the venue to the moment they depart. Upon students? arrival; the LFIs must verify weapons and credentials of each FFDO before training commences by visual inspection. The LFI is responsible for ensuring proper scoring of targets; completion of applicable administrative forms; and collection of training data. The LFI is required sign and certify qualification scores for all FFDOs attempting to qualify. Failure of an FFDO to qualify also means that an authorized FAMS Representative and/or LFI takes custody of the unloaded weapon; transport device (lockbox); credential and other equipment for return to TSA/FAMS. If no authorized FAMS representative is present to receive the equipment; the LFI shall make immediate verbal notification to the FFDO Program Office in order to make the appropriate arrangements to return equipment and credentials. Instructors are asked to promote creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while educating students on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) concepts. Programs are conducted for children ages 2-14, although not all instructors are required to teach all age groups. This role requires internal collaboration and communication with Snapology leadership as well as representing the Snapology organization to parents & children with a high degree of professionalism. Responsibilities Lead groups of up to 24 students through curriculum-guided activities Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures Have fun and create a fun experience for the children Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies Adequately prepare for each program by reading curriculum, watching training videos and/or participating in face-to-face training sessions Handle inquiries from parents regarding Snapology programs Encourage students & parents to enroll students in future Snapology programs Participate in periodic Snapology training & staff meetings, as required Qualifications A clear Criminal and Child Abuse Registry screening 2 or more years of experience working with children in a classroom or camp environment Education degree and/or teaching experience preferred Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis Have reliable, insured transportation to conduct mobile classes around the east side of Atlanta Programs Available to Teach: After-School Classes: 1-4 hours in length and occur between 2:00pm-6:00pm on school days Evening/Weekend Classes: 1-2 hours in length and occur in the evenings and on weekends Daytime Events: 1-6 hours in length and occur during the school day Evening/Weekend Workshops: 2-4 hours in length and occur during the evening and on weekends School Break Camps: 2-8 hours in length and occur between 8am-5pm Monday-Friday Birthday Parties: 1-2 hours in length and occur on weekends Not all Instructors are required to teach all programs. This position is part-time. Depending on candidate availability and the time of year, Instructors typically work between 2-30 hours per week.
