With all of its degree programs fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the Sacramento State School of Music has developed a regional and national reputation for the high quality of its faculty and the superior achievements of its students and performing ensembles. Specific areas of sub-disciplines of need: American Music; World Music; Applied Music (all instruments and voice); Class Piano; Ensembles; General Education courses in literature and fundamentals; Jazz Studies; Music History and Literature; Music Theory; Music Education; Music Technology Duties of a part-time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, Canvas course management, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool of applicants are made when there are instructional needs to fill coursework offered by an academic department based on changing enrollment patterns, changes to tenure-track faculty assignments, and other factors that cannot be addressed with our existing faculty. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, but occasionally academic year initial appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Often appointments are made just prior to the start of the semester. Rank and Salary Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are: Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 Lecturer B: $6,221 ‐ $13,224 Lecturer C: $6,825 ‐ $14,523 Lecturer D: $8,593 ‐ $15,211 The salary ranges indicated are based on a "full‐time rate" (15 weighted teaching units [WTUs]). A semester's worth of compensation is made up of six (6) payments of the given amount. To calculate your salary for a semester, the base rate would be pro‐rated based on the units worked out of 15 WTUs. If you were a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary, your pay would be structured as follows: $5,507 x 3/15 (3 units out of a possible 15 units total) = $1101.40 x 6 checks = $6,608.40 total for 3 units/semester. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: * Provide instruction in accordance with established program course outlines of record; inform/advise students about program requirements; evaluate and provide timely verbal and written assessments of student performance; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed reports and required documents; and maintain required student attendance, scholastic records, and other related materials. * Develop, review, and maintain currency of curriculum for courses the individual teaches in collaboration with other instructors. * Work in collaboration with faculty colleagues in the CIS Department in coordinating curriculum and mentoring new faculty in these courses. * Participate in Program Review and curriculum and program development, revision, implementation, and evaluation. * Current knowledge of programing language. For example, but not limited to Visual Basic, C++, Python, and/or Java. * Participate in the development, assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLO) and Program Learning Outcomes (PLO). * Actively participate in department/school meetings and maintain regular office hours in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies; participate in college governance and decision-making. * Use technology in the academic environment to enhance student learning. * Assist in recruiting students and promoting the CIS program through participation in college-sponsored events, student clubs, and educational and industry outreach. * Participate in college-wide committee work and collegial governance. * Maintain current knowledge and skills in the area of assignment. * Maintain effective communication with peers, staff, students, and administrators. Candidates must possess: a commitment to encouragement of learning and an enthusiastic attitude toward student learning; sensitivity to students from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds who may have wide ranges of abilities. AND Master's degree in computer science or computer engineering OR Bachelor's degree in either of the above AND a master's degree in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering OR Bachelor's degree in engineering AND a master's degree in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration OR Bachelor's degree in mathematics AND a master's degree in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a master's degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems OR the equivalent If you do not meet the minimum qualifications exactly as stated above, you must request an equivalency review and submit conclusive supporting documents at the time of application. All degrees must be from accredited institutions. * Demonstrate ability to utilize multiple teaching methods/strategies needed to address the diverse learning styles/need of students including integration of interactive technologies to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving strategies; * Possess a commitment to teaching and learning and provide a supportive learning environment to enhance student success and completion; * Demonstrate sensitivity to teach students from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds, including those with disabilities, who may have wide ranges of abilities; * Possess a willingness to take initiative in co-curricular activities, special events, and School projects; * Possess a willingness to participate in shared/participatory governance of the Division and the College; * Demonstrate an ability to self-evaluate and effect change for personal growth and improvement, as well as an ability to accept constructive feedback and effect change appropriately; * Participate in professional growth and development activities and lifelong learning. WORK ENVIROMENT: The recommended candidate(s) will work in a small office or larger room with multiple people, in a primarily sedentary nature, either sitting or standing. This role will require significant technology use, including long periods of looking at technology screens and entering information using a keyboard and/or mouse device. Interruptions are likely in large room settings and in small office settings. Frequent use of online meetings technology with webcam on, phone, and email will be required to communicate with all campus communities. The recommended candidate(s) must utilize vision (near) to write and to read printed materials and computer screens; utilize hearing for ordinary and telephonic conversation and to hear sound prompts from equipment; utilize manual and finger dexterity to type/keyboard and/or utilize mouse and otherwise operate a microcomputer and other office equipment.
