Provide oversight and direction for the education and instruction of medical students and other health care profession students while providing mentorship and motivation for learning, research and/or scholarly activity in classroom environments, clinical settings, active learning groups, laboratory experience and research opportunities. Provide leadership in the development, delivery and evaluation of the clinical, standardized and simulated education offerings of ACHE. Clinical work, as assigned, at local hospitals, clinics, or other medical service providers for the purpose of developing and maintaining clinical skills and instructing and supervising students of the College in their clinical rotations. Establish and maintain scheduled office hours for faculty advising, student advising, tutoring, remediation and consultation. Position Summary: Instructor of English/Creative Writing with specialization in fiction. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position in the Department of English and World Languages B.F.A. Creative Writing program within the College of Arts and Humanities. Arkansas Tech is a mid-sized liberal arts university emphasizing teaching (4/4 load) and undergraduate education. Departmental undergraduate programs include B.A. in English and English Education and B.F.A. in Creative Writing. Departmental graduate programs include M.A. in English, M.A. in TESOL, and Master of Liberal Arts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop, teach, and assess undergraduate English courses in-class and online, particularly those in the areas of fiction writing (novel and short story) and teaching English in the secondary school. Effectively advise and mentor students at the undergraduate level. Engage students in high impact learning practices. Develop a sustainable scholarship program, including seeking external funds to support the program. Provide impactful departmental, college, university, and professional service to the university, community, and state. Engage in assessment and continuous improvement of courses. Perform other duties assigned by the Department Head. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Candidates must have excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and a history of working effectively with colleagues. Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in English, Creative Writing, Teaching, or related field. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an ability to develop courses in fiction writing, genre fiction, and film/television studies. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching English/Language Arts at the high school level. Candidates must have an established publication record of short fiction and novel-length fiction. Candidates should demonstrate familiarity with the state and region to assist in recruiting in high schools as well as at community and literary events. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to coordinate on-campus readings and workshops with other emerging or established authors. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to general education instruction, including composition. Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands: This position is located in offices and classrooms at ATU. The position is assigned a desk and computer in location that may be in a different building than classroom locations, so the position requires the ability change locations and/or walk moderate distances during the day.
