STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Non-Credit Instructors - ESOL provide instruction for English Language Proficiency courses. Instructors are responsible for the management of the overall learning environment including the preparation, delivery and assessment of learning activities and the submission of a course syllabus, program reports and course outcomes. Courses may be offered in face-to-face, hybrid, or online modalities at the Attleboro, Fall River, New Bedford, and/or Taunton campuses or at a workplace location in these or surrounding communities. Courses may be held during the day, in the evening, or on weekends.
The current existing needs are for:
* In person Adult Education ESOL courses at the Bristol Fall River and/or Taunton campus, twice per week.
* Online Adult Education ESOL course (meets twice per week online), with the ability of the instructor to access Bristol's Adult Education programs in person as necessary.
* In person ESOL class at the Bristol New Bedford campus during the evening, twice per week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Instruct students, who have a variety of learning styles, with appropriate level materials and teaching strategies, in a face-to-face and/or remote learning environment and promote students' active participation in their own learning.
* Develop and revise instruction/curriculum as needed; aligning it to the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education.
* Evaluate student progress through administration of cumulative assessments to measure learning outcomes.
* Integrate digital literacy into curriculum using tools such as, but not limited to: educational software, remote/online learning platforms, and use of other educational equipment as warranted.
* Prepare and submit a course syllabus.
* Prepare students for academic and career pathways.
* Refer students in need of tutorial services.
* Participate in program meetings
* Complete required college training such as, but not limited to, Title IX, FERPA, Bloodborne Pathogens and Information Security.
* Foster student success across the college's diverse student body.

Requirements:
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* Minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
* Minimum of two years of experience working with adult students from diverse educational and ethnic backgrounds in an instructional setting.

The advanced level is comparable to university courses for International Teaching Assistants at U.S. Universities. Deliver English As A Second Language (ESL) Program Courses and collaborates with university-wide departments to develop and execute lessons to support student's English language development and to matriculate into academic programs taught in English.

Provide all textbooks and all required materials for all of the courses outlined above. ProSidian Engagement Team's material cost should be based on 15 students per class.

Qualifications

JOB OVERVIEW
International Programs has a requirement to assist International Military Students with their ability to participate verbally in Naval War College courses, comprehend written texts, and effectively communicate their thoughts and arguments in written papers. The courses will be at two levels: Intermediate and Advanced. The advanced level is comparable to university courses for International Teaching Assistants at U.S. universities. Officer courses will be taught with emphasis on academic preparation for reading and writing.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The instructor assumes direct responsibility for the delivery and conduct of classroom instruction to include but not limited to the following: prepare all necessary coursework materials before class; maintain student roster and contact information; report weekly attendance to International Programs; disseminate any class schedule changes as directed by International Programs.
Provide a prepared syllabus to International Programs for contracted courses at two levels (Officer-Intermediate and Advanced) prior to start of first class.
Submit a grade report of “Pass” or “Fail”.
Provide assistance to students in public speaking by listening to practice speeches, noting recurring grammatical problems and providing feedback for improvement.
Provide assistance in evaluating student papers as part of the NWC syllabus. Critique papers for syntax and grammar through written feedback to the student.
Conduct post instruction questionnaires and produce a final progress report to International Programs.
Provide all textbooks and all required materials for all of the courses outlined above.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Adult Education (AE) instructors provide instruction for adults and out-of-school youth in basic skills upgrading, high school equivalency preparation, and college and career readiness. Assignments may include, but are not limited to, teaching High School Equivalency Preparation at the adult basic level (ABE) to the adult secondary level (ASE). Instructors are responsible for maintaining student assessment results and tracking student progress throughout the year. Instructors will meet with students to define and update goals. In support of this contract, the Naval War College will make arrangements for and provide appropriately equipped classrooms located in Newport, RI 02841 - All classes will be taught in the Naval War College Classroom scheduled to be in Pringle Hall, Room 360 during the Fall/Winter and spring schedule.
The instructor assumes direct responsibility for the delivery and conduct of classroom instruction, including coursework material preparation, student roster maintenance, and attendance reporting. Courses will be taught with an emphasis on academic preparation for reading and writing at the Naval War College.

The class location shall be Naval War College (686 Cushing Rd, Newport, RI 02841) - All classes will be taught in the Naval War College Classroom scheduled to be in Pringle Hall, Room 360 during the Fall/Winter and spring schedule.
Specific performance requirements:
The instructor assumes direct responsibility for the delivery and conduct of classroom instruction to include but not limited to the following: a) prepare all necessary coursework materials before class; b) maintain student roster and contact information; c) report weekly attendance to International Programs; and d) disseminate any class schedule changes as directed by International Programs
Provide a prepared syllabus to International Programs for contracted courses at two levels (Officer intermediate and advanced) prior to the start of the first class.
Submit a grade report of "Pass" or "Fail."
Provide assistance to ESL students in public speaking by listening to practice speeches, noting recurring grammatical problems, and providing feedback for improvement.
Provide assistance in evaluating student papers as part of the Naval War College (NWC) Syllabus. Critique papers for content, syntax, and grammar through written feedback to the student.
Conduct post instruction questionnaires and produce a final progress report to International Programs.
Provide all textbooks and all required materials for all of the courses outlined above. ProSidian Engagement Team's material cost should be based on 15 students per class.

Develops syllabi, lessons and assessments focused on English for Academic Purposes in the skill areas of reading, written communication, oral communication and grammar
Assesses the English language needs of individual students and adjusts curriculum to meet student learning needs
Promotes academic enrichment by supporting students in their academic and language acquisition development through formative and summative assessment
Demonstrates specialized knowledge in written and oral communication, grammar, and reading skills as well as a pedagogy for English language learners
Develops and facilitates skill-building programs to stimulate student engagement and critical thinking skills
Manages and updates student degree records and performs end of term reporting and processing for ESL students
Develops and maintains program materials
Collaborates internally with other departments to coordinate special workshops and instructional programs related to course content in order to support and advise ESL students adapting to University life and the westernized classroom

Qualifications
The English As A Second Language Instructor - Naval War College English As A Second Language Classes (ESL Classes) shall have consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five (5) years, Must be able to use a computer to communicate via email; and proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and related tools and technology required for the position.
Work products shall be thorough, accurate, appropriately documented, and comply with established criteria. The candidate shall ensure that duties are performed in a competent and professional manner that meets milestones/delivery schedules as outlined.
Education:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree | Master's Degree in a related field (Proffered)
Possess a valid Newport, RI (or other recognized state) Teaching Licenses in the subject area of interest and in English as a Second Language (ESL).
Demonstrated expertise and experience teaching English Language Learners as outlined by the Newport, RI (or other recognized state) Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Demonstrated success in developing the English language proficiency of secondary school English Language Learners.
Experience in curriculum development for English as a Second Language (ESL) and English language learner (ELL) Classes.
College-level teaching experience and Proven technological proficiency.
The ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
A moderate amount of experience teaching English as a second language in higher education or other related experience
Master's in ESLEFL pedagogy, linguistics, or a related field of language teaching, experience teaching International Teaching Assistants, experience in critiquing writing skills and administrative experience.
Experience and availability for teaching Bi-weekly ESL classes on the Intermediate and Advanced levels.
Two Years' Experience Critiquing writing skills and Administrative experience Teaching ITA's
Experience and International TEFL Academy (ITA) Certification for TEFL - Teaching English as a Foreign Language, or simply, English language instruction for non-native speakers.
Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes
