Music teachers must have a good musical foundation and must be able to sing well, read music, and be able to teach the basic building blocks of music (but do not need to play an instrument). You must be very comfortable being silly in front of a group of parents and kids and encouraging them to be silly with you. School readiness classes are a wonderful way for education majors to gain experience in the classroom with shorter and smaller classes, and no assessments! Life experience, dependability, responsibility, and personality count more than previous work experience for the instructor position. However, previous experience with children and in retail sales or customer services is strongly preferred. Core Responsibilities Teach ESL & Literacy to Children Lesson Planning Track Progress & Testing Students Intake & Documentation External Collaboration What will you be doing in your role? Teach English language and literacy skills to refugee children. Effectively plan multiple lessons each week based on an understanding of pre-literate and SLIFE students based on the Science of Reading Conduct ESL and Literacy classes in a fun, positive, welcoming, and culturally sensitive learning manner. Create and implement level appropriate lessons. Provide appropriate ESL scaffolding during lessons and introduce students to increasing rigor and add academic language and activities into your classes. Lessons and classroom management are trauma informed and reflect an understanding of refugee students and their needs. Manage and support interns and volunteers assigned to your tutoring groups. Conduct regular assessment of students including pre- and post- test and track students' progress. Use assessment results to inform your lesson planning. Ensure students learn English and literacy and can demonstrate improvement upon post-testing. Create your class schedule based on student level and campus needs. Network with and build positive, professional relationships with teachers and district personnel at your assigned campuses. Act as an open line of communication between your campuses and RSI staff. Stay on top of upcoming events at your campus and communicate them to other team members. Conduct Client intakes and maintain documents to meet grant requirements Complete client attendance. Determine client eligibility and enroll clients in program services. Be flexible with your tasks and time to help the team as needed. Foster appropriate relationships with school personnel to ensure cooperation between RSI and your assigned campuses Travel to and from off campus appointments as needed by the program. Meet your commitments and effectively manage your administrative duties. Work collaboratively with other Refugee School Impact team members to support the overall goals of the team. Are you the next RSI ESL & Literacy Instructor? Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field and one-year experience in teaching ESL, or a combination of education and experience required Familiarity with refugee populations and their needs preferred Good computer skills required Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English Must have reliable transportation, a current Texas driver's license Here's the Good Stuff... Full-Time hourly position. Pay is determined by relevant experience, work history, education and internal equities.
