Job Description:
The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida (UF) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE). We are seeking individuals with expertise in various ISE and/or interdisciplinary methods with a focus in smart manufacturing (Industry 4.0). Areas of application include, but are not limited to, additive manufacturing, industrialized construction and infrastructure, semiconductors, aerospace, robotics, agriculture, sustainable manufacturing practices, supply chain operations, agile and/or in-situ quality assurance modeling, and structural health monitoring.
This position supports the continued growth of both the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering and the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering. It is strategically aligned with the launch of ISE's new Master of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM) program, which will be offered at UF's Jacksonville campus. The faculty member hired will be part of the ISE Department program and will play a key role in delivering and supporting the MSEM program on-site. The Jacksonville campus is integral to UF's broader vision of establishing a national center of excellence through robust collaboration with industry, government, and community stakeholders. Its workforce-driven graduate programs are designed to cultivate future leaders and drive economic development in the region, contributing to the long-term prosperity of the state.
Successful candidates will be expected to maintain a strong record of high-quality publications, supervise Ph.D. students, teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in Industrial & Systems Engineering, and actively contribute to the department's service activities. A strong and sustained externally funded research program-or a clear motivation to establish one-is essential. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to supporting research through sponsored projects. Candidates applying at the Associate Professor level or above must have a proven record of scholarship, external funding, and service.
UF ISE offers BS, ME, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. We have approximately 475 undergraduate students and about 200 graduate students. The Department hosts research in various application areas including advanced manufacturing, energy systems, healthcare systems, manufacturing systems, supply chain systems, and transportation systems. For mid-level courses: A minimum of 2 years of maritime experience as a Bosun or higher rank is required; equivalent military experience as a Boatswain's Mate or higher is acceptable.
Antiterrorism Officer (ATO) or Force Protection Officer with experience directing, planning, administering, and supervising a shipboard force protection effort and training programs, and developing and executing ATFP plans and preparing vulnerability assessments.
For upper-level courses: At least 1 year of maritime experience as an Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW), Conning Officer, Officer of the Deck (at sea), or equivalent military officer rank is required.
Qualified military ratings include Boatswain's Mate, Operations Specialist, Quartermaster, and any Officer of the Navigational Watch.
At least 2 years of sea service on vessels of at least 500 Gross Tonnage (GT) is mandatory.
