UMKC has had an Architectural studies program for the past 38 years. The new Bachelor of Architecture degree program was recently approved by the University of Missouri Board of Curators as the first public Architecture program in the state of Missouri. The first Bachelor of Architecture cohort started in the Fall 2024 and the program will continue to grow each year. Kansas City is home to many large, medium and small architecture firms. This new program will be fully integrated with the local firms through adjunct faculty, guest-lecturers, internships, hiring, and research.
Job Description
The Division of the Natural and Built Environment within the School of Science and Engineering at the University of Missouri-Kansas City invites applications and nominations for a non-tenure track faculty position in Architecture. The position could be at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Teaching Professor with a 9-month faculty contract starting in the Fall of 2026. As a new degree at UMKC, the successful candidate for this position will be part of building an accredited 5-year Bachelor of Architecture program.
Qualified candidates should have either an established research portfolio or a commitment to innovative, traditional and technology-driven teaching. In addition they will need the capability of interacting with the local firms and alumni. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in developing curricular advancements, technology infrastructure, civic engagement, and professional interactions that will lead to national accreditation. Funding, community excitement, and student interest are at a high, which will move the academic program swiftly to accreditation.
Areas of Expertise:
The ideal candidate will possess academic experience with a background in studio instruction, studio pedagogy, digital and/or building technology. Candidates should demonstrate areas of expertise which may include, architectural graphics, visualization, traditional and digital design, building systems, technology, structural systems, sustainable design and design+build. This is a rare opportunity to build a new and unique program. The successful candidate's role will be crucial in shaping the curriculum, ensuring that students gain a comprehensive and thoughtful education in architecture.
Qualifications
All candidates must hold one of the following:
* Professional graduate degree in architecture.
* Professional undergraduate degree in architecture and a graduate or doctoral degree.
For Associate Non-tenure track Teaching Professor or Full Non-tenure track Teaching Professor consideration:
* Candidates must also be a licensed architect, US or International.
* Candidates must also have at least five years of experience for an associate teaching professor candidate and beyond five years for a full teaching professor candidate in an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor.
* Candidates must also demonstrate that they work well with colleagues and students in performing their university responsibilities at their previous institutions or workplace.
Desired Qualifications:
* Experience or capacity for integrating emerging technologies with studio, seminar and/or lecture teaching.
* Experience with or ability to implement experimental teaching in terms of modality, methodology, and/or format.

HOW A LEAD FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
Lead Firearms Instructors (LFIs) are the first point of contact at the training venue for Federal Flight Deck Officers (FFDO) and is the on-site training manager for the program. LFIs conduct all classroom instruction; delivering the approved TSA training and safety brief; introducing and describing new equipment; and ensuring all students understand and sign the safety briefing. The LFI ensures a minimum number of SFIs are present to maintain an instructor/student ratio of 1:6 for each training session. The LFI must ensure a sufficient inventory of training supplies is on-hand at the training venue to support monthly requalification sessions. The LFI is expected to maintain positive control of the training environment from the moment students arrive at the venue to the moment they depart. Upon students? arrival; the LFIs must verify weapons and credentials of each FFDO before training commences by visual inspection. The LFI is responsible for ensuring proper scoring of targets; completion of applicable administrative forms; and collection of training data. The LFI is required sign and certify qualification scores for all FFDOs attempting to qualify. Failure of an FFDO to qualify also means that an authorized FAMS Representative and/or LFI takes custody of the unloaded weapon; transport device (lockbox); credential and other equipment for return to TSA/FAMS. If no authorized FAMS representative is present to receive the equipment; the LFI shall make immediate verbal notification to the FFDO Program Office in order to make the appropriate arrangements to return equipment and credentials. The LFI must keep all Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) secured appropriately both during and after a re-qualification session in compliance with the TSA MD 2100.2; Privacy and Information Collection Policy and TSA MD 1400.3 TSA Information Security Policy. The LFI is oversees time keeping of all SFI labor hours. The LFI must comply with internal compliance training events
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
EDUCATION / EQUIVALENT TRAINING: Current or former federal law enforcement agent; officer; or civilian employee having completed a recognized federal firearm instructor training program deemed acceptable by the TSA/FAMS. Examples of a recognized federal firearms instructor programs include; but are not limited to; certified instructor graduates of FLETC Firearms Instructor Training program (FITP); FAMS Firearms Instructor Training Program; FBI/DEA Firearms Instructor Training Program; United States Postal Inspectors Firearms Instructor Training Program or equivalent federal training program. All LFIs must successfully complete a 2-3 days firearms re-qualification training program under the technical direction of the SAC; FAMS Training Division; and the FFDO Program Office. Areas of instruction shall include; but not to be limited to; the re-qualification course(s) of fire; procedural requirements for conducting the re-qualification session; and use of a GFE Automatic External Defibrillator (AED); and basic first aid.
EXPERIENCE: 5 years of firearms training experience
Associates Degree; or the equivalent combination of education; technical certifications or training; or work/military experience.
UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Working Conditions The work is typically performed at an indoor or outdoor gun range. Employees will be required to handle weapons and ammunition in the course of their duties. Exposure to high volumes of noise due to the firing of weapons will occur and employees are required to wear hearing protection in the form of foam ear plugs as well as external hearing protection. Exposure to expelled gun-powder as a result of fired ammunition is expected; and the employees must wash hands after handling ammunition. Work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials; boxes; or equipment. *This position requires applicants to successfully complete the security application and pass a background investigation clearance prior to starting.*

PURPOSE OF JOB: The HS Classroom Instructor effectively plans and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily activities that support children's health, social-emotional development, and school-readiness. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads the teaching team through a collaborative process to develop and implement weekly lesson plans utilizing the approved curriculum, assessment and daily classroom routine. Reviews lesson plans daily with the team during planning time and posts for visibility. Engages in individualized planning based upon cognitive and language needs, as well as children's interests.
Completes the DRDP (Desired Results Development Profile) three times per year on each child by collecting observations and data that align with the DESE Early Childhood Learning Outcomes and Head Start Child Outcomes Framework. Develops a strategy and team approach to ensure that the data collected is ongoing, objective and consistent. This requires the use of an iPad and other technology methods.
Promotes and supports children's social, emotional and physical development consistent with the philosophy of Head Start, Trauma Smart, and Conscious Discipline classroom management techniques. Establishes and maintains respectful and responsive interactions, even when challenging behaviors are present. Supports the development of adaptive skills and completes necessary referrals to the Mental Health and Disabilities Coordinator as appropriate.
Creates a classroom environment that aligns with CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System). This includes creating a positive climate, engaging in meaningful interactions, and promoting language and critical thinking skills.
Establishes a learning environment that values diversity and provides a variety of multi-cultural experiences. Demonstrates cultural competency and respect for each child's background by incorporating the cultural and family backgrounds in the curriculum.
Maintains a safe and healthy classroom environment as required by Head Start Program Performance Standards. This includes the effective supervision of children, utilizing C.A.S.E. when transitioning children from one location to another and maintaining the required classroom ratio. Monitors the arrival and departure of children and records attendance accurately and consistently. Communicates with teaching team regarding roles and responsibilities of the daily routine.
Displays and presents children's work throughout the classroom for parents to view. Documents the process children engaged in and connects to learning outcomes.
Completes assigned trainings (minimum 15 hours annually), participates in professional learning communities, completes paperwork and reporting requirements, and meets deadlines set forth by leadership and MARC.
Leads and models professionalism and teamwork within the teaching team, family advocates and Head Start content leads and management.
Actively recruits families and community patrons for volunteer participation. Develops and maintains supportive and professional relationships with families to enhance parent education, communication, involvement and advocacy. Provides educational guidance to families through two (2) home visits and two (2) conferences per year.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Graduate Assistant for the Keleher Learning Commons provides opportunities for students in any USM graduate program to continue developing their professional skills. This position is responsible for assisting with numerous aspects of Commons Library services, including planning and coordinating library events and outreach, writing and editing content for social media, analyzing data, and providing excellent student, faculty, staff, and community support services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Promotes library resources and support services, including maintaining a welcoming and inclusive learning environment within the Keleher Learning Commons.
* Plans and promotes library marketing efforts under the supervision of the Director of the Keleher Learning Commons.
* Gathers and processes data for assessment of library services and initiatives.
* Serves as a professional staff member on duty, including opening or closing the Keleher Learning Commons as scheduled.
* Assists the Commons staff with special projects and general tasks.
* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
* This position resides on the Leavenworth campus.
* Bachelor's degree and enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Saint Mary
* Proven ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals
* Project a positive, professional, customer-focused image for the library and university
* Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
* Must be self-starter - able to work with minimal direction/supervision and should possess and demonstrate initiative
* Must be highly motivated, energetic and a resourceful problem solver
* Intermediate level experience with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* Must be able to successfully pass required background screening as appropriate
* Affinity with the overall mission of the University of Saint Mary

Physical activity includes prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting, walking and uses arms, legs and hands frequently. Must have the ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds and assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes.
