The College of Engineering at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for multiple tenure-system faculty positions in all areas related to Space Electronics. We encourage applications for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor and will consider exceptional candidates for appointment at the rank of Associate or (Full) Professor. These positions are supported through Michigan State University's Global Impact Initiative, designed to address global grand challenges and national priorities through the creation of over 100 new faculty positions in some of the most promising - and critical - fields of research.
Candidates must have earned a PhD in Electrical Engineering or a discipline related to Space Electronics at the time of appointment, with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2026. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a sustainable, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program; contribute significantly to their discipline through scholarly work; demonstrate effective teaching and mentorship of both undergraduate and graduate students; participate in institutional and professional service; and contribute to the university's land-grant mission. Faculty appointments are expected to reside primarily within the College of Engineering; however, appointments in other colleges or academic units may be made, depending on the candidate's expertise and interdisciplinary alignment. Joint appointments will be considered as appropriate. Candidates are encouraged to describe how their research complements and enhances existing strengths across Michigan State University.
All areas of research specialization will be considered, with a particular interest in candidates whose work has the potential to impact space electronics and aligns with the MSU Space Electronics Initiative, in close collaboration with the on-campus high-energy ion test facilities.
Highly encouraged areas of research include:
Space applications and space readiness for emerging materials and processes
Concepts, devices, and circuits advancing state-of-the-art semiconductors, including (but not limited to):
Wide band gap devices
Silicon photonics
Other photonic IC platforms for space applications
Heterogeneous microsystem integration and packaging of semiconductors and chiplets
Radiation and temperature effects on next-generation materials and electronics applications
The position involves participation in export-controlled research, requiring eligibility for facility access, testing of export-controlled parts, and compliance with technology export controls and federal sponsor requirements. Therefore, the successful candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of appointment. Other qualifications include strong leadership and interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication abilities, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment. Successful candidates will be appointed to an academic-year position in the tenure system, with the potential for tenure, if appropriate. Successful candidates are expected to elevate the reputation of MSU through their professional activities.

Specific Teaching Assignment:
Faculty member will be responsible for teaching courses in composition and literature, adhering to departmental course descriptions and learning outcomes. Supervisory Responsibility:

Minimum Requirements
1. Master's degree in English, Literature, Composition, Rhetoric, American Studies, Creative Writing or a related degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in English from an accredited institution.*
2. Teaching experience in English. (Writing Center and/or tutoring experience can be considered as a type of teaching experience.)
3. Understanding of and commitment to community college teaching, mission and philosophy.
4. Innovative, flexible and positive teaching style and understanding the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
5. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
6. Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
1. The employee must be able to move about 2/3 of the time and be stationary about 1/3 of the time. They are required to be mobile around campus for participant involvement/activities.

Work Schedule

Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job: Faculty facilitate student learning and initiate and participate in efforts to consistently improve the level of student success. Minimum Requirements

Brief Description of Duties

* Implement relevant, creative, and effective teaching methodologies and tool utilization (including the appropriate and professional use of AI) to engage learners and inspire original thinking, problem solving, global sustainability, professional communications, ethics, and entrepreneurial mindset
* Assess student learning based on institutional outcomes, course goals and objectives in an unbiased, timely, and respectful manner.
* Hold regularly scheduled office hours (minimum of one hour per week for each three semester credit hour course) and be available to students on a regular basis.

Required Qualifications and Skills

* One to three years of professional experience in cross cultural relations.

This is a part-time, permanent position. This is a great opportunity for an artist who would like to be able to offer classes, but does not have their own studio space to do so.
